Unbelievable, don't be fooled by reviews, it was that bad we left a day early. When we arrived the hotel manager said he was putting us in the other building because the noise pollution was better. We were showed to our room and for over £200+ for a room our heart sank. The room was cold so I asked for a fleece which was dropped off. The noise from the road was bad so we walked into Cortina to get ear plugs. We decided to stay out and have a good drink so we could get some well earned sleep. Well 5 am the noise from the road woke me and I sat in the dreary room waiting for breakfast. This was the worst breakfast of our 2 week holiday, coffe was horrible and tasted of sterilised milk. Eggs bacon and pastry's were lacking in taste and didn't taste fresh I had the yoghurt which was ok. On the 2nd day we went for a hike, we returned in the early afternoon cold and wet, we had a shower and decided to have a sleep as we were so tired. I was awakened by my wife who had gotten out of bed to find two hotel employees in the dark in our room arguing! My wife said when they saw her they were horrified and looked guilty and walked out of our room. My wife asked me not to complain as we had no where else to go . We decided to book a hotel somewhere else for the next day. We then took all our valuables and packed then into rucksacks and went out to get food and return to the hotel as late as we could. The next morning a day early we checked out, I spoke to the manager about what had happened and he said it was me who was in your room as the cleaner couldn't open the adjoining room door. No apology, no refund offered. Now the owner of the hotel usually responds to bad reviews and I'm sure he will here. The worst hotel I've ever stayed in and for the price it wasn't worth £25 a...
Read moreHotel Menardi is a lovely hotel not far but not too near Cortina downtown, the right distance for a nice walk (when here you should walk or bike not take the car to go downtown!). Positioned in the best part of the wonderful village, unique in the world, near to hundreds of beautiful hikes without having to always cross the downtown. Just below the breath taking Cristallo mountain. Restaurant and room service is very friendly and warm. Food is very good, perfect for us who do not like to eat too much and prefer quality to quantity, may be short of quantity for heavy eaters. People are very very nice and friendly both restaurant service and room service, also hall service full of suggestions for trekking. Check in service should be definitely improved. Our room was renovated and clean, very small, only the basic living space though not being the cheapest one. Rooms on the back are preferable in summer because less noisy but are more expensive and small. Massage and Spa service should be improved or not given at all. Price is aligned with area, probably the most expensive mountain area in Italy (I am writing in English but I am italian and I have been in most if not all the nice mountain places in Italy). But the beauty of the Dolomites deserves it. The comparison in price with nearby Alto Adige (Sud Tirol) is very negative for Cortina (30% more), but if you stay there you have to use the car much more to find nice...
Read moreNot usually one to leave reviews but feel compelled to based on how wonderful my stay here was. Menardi hotel has been family-owned and operated for several generations and there is something so special about this place. I stayed here with my trekking tour both before and after our trek thru the Alta Via 1. Rooms here are clean, recently renovated. Bathrooms are LUXURIOUS w/great lighting. Our room window opened to a grassy lawn so it was very quiet. Breakfast buffet was complimentary and AMAZING; I miss having my yogurt there with fresh honey straight from the comb! Great location imo; 10 min walk from downtown Cortina where there are many shops and restaurants; 15 min walk from the main bus station in Cortina. ||Most of all though you feel like you are being cared for by family here. I unfortunately had a hiking accident while in the Dolomites that required me to be seen at a local medical center on the day of my initial checkout. Michael who was working the front desk was kind enough to drive me to the ER. He also helped me find a room in the hotel to extend my stay while I sorted out my travel plans even though online it was showing they were fully booked. When you are halfway across the world from your family and friends, injured & by yourself, I can't say how much the Menardi family's hospitality meant to me. I am forever thankful to have found this slice of home in Cortina and look forward to staying...
