This agriturismo is set in large, beautiful, and well maintained grounds only a short drive away from Pisa airport. The swimming pool is the centrepiece of the area; it is surrounded by olive trees and offers views over the Tuscan hills. It is cleaned every day and was always in excellent condition during our stay. There is a small animal farm, as well as a playground, both of which are great attractions for children. The owners run classes/workshops for local school children/families, which we were invited to join. There is a daily delivery of fresh bread and pastries, and we were presented upon our arrival with a bottle of local wine. All of these points add to the authenticity of the place. The owners also have two dogs, which were very friendly and playful. These, too, are an attraction for kids and adults alike. ||||One point deducted as the villa we stayed in (La Casina) was a bit of a disappointment. It is spacious and with the terrace facing the forest, making for lovely mealtimes. However the interior was somewhat dated, and some appliances old and not working. Only one of the four hobs on the gas fire was working, and the electric ignition was not very good. On the first night of our stay, we experienced a powercut which, it turned out, was caused by the dishwasher. The matter was seen to the next day, and an electrician came the day after, but the problem was not resolved, nor was anything communicated to us following his visit. We simply disconnected the dishwasher to avoid recurrent power cuts for the rest of our stay. We also felt the kitchen was lacking some basic items, such as an electric kettle. ||||The washing machine on the site, at €5 a wash, was somewhat pricey, but on the other hand this worked well, with detergent etc. provided. ||||We felt La Casina was the oldest accommodation and that perhaps the other villa/apartments were better equipped. We would visit this agriturismo again because of all the positives, but would look to stay in the other villa, and suggest a well deserved revamp...
Read moreWhile recently visiting Pisa, we traveled to Agriturismo La Serra, located in the Tuscan countryside near Crispina, to participate in a cooking class. We wish now that we had stayed at La Serra, instead of a hotel in Pisa. The family who own and operate this farm are wonderful people, and provided us with an unforgettable experience. They asked us in advance to choose a three-course dinner menu, and then brought in a professional chef from Pisa ("Claudio") who took us through every step of preparation, first explaining what he was going to do and why, next showing us how to do it, and then standing over us as we tried our hand. The dishes that emerged from this process were delicious, and were served with wine made from grapes grown on the farm. This experience stood out for us. We were treated like family, and after about six hours at La Serra, we felt we had not only learned something about Tuscan cooking, but had also developed a genuine relationship with some fine people. The setting is peaceful and beautiful, and the room accommodations appear to be excellent. If you want to relax in the Tuscan countryside, I don't think you can do better than this. Our only regret is that we didn't know how nice La Serra was until we arrived for the...
Read moreWe stayed at Agriturismo La Serra for three nights with our daughters, ages 8 and 10. Although it was too cold out to take advantage of it, the huge swimming pool looked very tempting. There was a playground and a ping-pong table to keep the girls busy. The apartment we stayed in was very spacious and clean, with beautiful views of the grounds. They are working on trails for hiking near the property, as well. Stefania was a wonderfully gracious host, providing maps and ideas for places to visit, as well as a welcoming bottle of their wine. She even made a birthday cake for our younger daughter, who celebrated her eighth birthday while we were there! The locations is very convenient to both Pisa and Lucca, as well as Viareggio and the other towns along the Versilia. The airport is only 20 minutes away, which made it easy for us to make a 725 am flight on the day of our departure. A car and a GPS are recommended for getting around. This is an ideal place for families or for anyone who enjoys a first rate accommodation in lovely surroundings, with extremely pleasant and helpful hosts. If we are lucky enough to go back to this part of Italy, we would happily stay at...
