Fattoria Il Lago was so very beautiful, but, very rustic. Francisco and his family are wonderful. Our space was clean, the bed very comfortable with extra heavy blankets which were needed as it was cool at the end of May and heat is not part of the room rate. You must pay by the hour for electric heat and for firewood if your space has a fireplace. The apartment is very rustic and you need to stop at the grocery before going as no essentials are provided. You need to purchase drinking water, dish soap, toilet tissue, bar soap etc. ...and matches since the electronic ignitor did not work. You also need to pay a 50 Euro cleaning fee upon departure no matter what. This was fine, however, making this know upon booking would be great. We had no hot water upon arrival, but it was fixed immediately the next day after making them aware of the problem. Our flight was delayed so we arrived on a Sunday in the afternoon instead of Saturday. Reception was closed so we had to go to back to the town to find a phone. Luckily, a lovely young waitress at one of the restaurants in the village called and found someone to help us check in as the restaurant was closing. Francesco met us about 5 minutes later. Everything else was closed as well on Sunday. People in Dicamano are very friendly and helpful to visitors. You need a vehicle as the road to Lago is quite long and uphill. The Drive from Florence was short and easy. The Lago winery tour charge is $100 Euros which is understandable since the family is working very hard from dawn to dusk preparing the land for the wine and olive oil production. Some of the amenities like horseback riding is not on property. There are several hiking trails with wildlife such as pheasant, hare and deer and a beautiful pool . Free Wifi is available outside of the reception and at the pool area. We stood under an olive tree to send our emails. Quite fun. Food in the village restaurants was most excellent. We especially enjoyed Roberto's! A good village to visit also and a short distance away is Scarperia. The whole town is within castle walls and people are just as nice as those in Dicamano! Scarperia is known for the making of knives and cutlery (by hand), for hundreds of years. We thank Franchesco and his family for their hospitality in hosting us and sharing their beautiful...

We had booked shuttle pick up and drop offs as we did not have a car and there were 6 adults travelling. He stated most have cars but no problem. His website states they have a 6 person Mercedes van. We, all 6 ended up having to sit in the back of a very old two seat Mitsubishi truck with luggage. Needless to say the truck started smoking under the hood. After that no truck and/or shuttle. Thank goodness we are fit and could handle the 40 minute walk to town and back. ||The reception was not open each day. We met the following day to find out they do not offer quad tours either yet their website states they do. We also did not get to do a wine tasting as he had to do emails?!
