Hotel Schmuckhof — Hotel in Eisacktal - Valle Isarco

Room was comfortable and big. Breakfasts were really good, with delicious strawberries, nice selection of local delicacies. The waiter at the breakfast was very attentive and spoke english with no problems. Checkout was fast.

But...

When we arrived, the directions to reception were not clearly visible. The first corridor leads to rooms. You have to walk many stairs down and look for the desk. Unfortunately, there was no one there. We had to go and check for somebody in the kitchen! The lady did not , just told us to wait. We stood there for couple of minutes, until she turned to us. She even did not speak english at all, so the whole procedure was quite complicated.

We made a reservation for our first evening to their restaurant. But the same story continued. Even though we had reservation and arrived precisely at given time, they did not have table ready and we had to wait before they cleaned it. Moreover, there was nobody to lead us to our table. We had to again look for someone to ask (you guessed it - in the kitchen!). They just pointed in the direction, where the table was located and let us guess, which one is it (we got it wrong and have to change seats once). The waiter was overlooking and not welcoming at all. When he realized, that we do not speak English, he simply passed us our menu cards and went to make jokes with more interesting German guests. This does not feel professional. I never experienced, that meals for two guests (pizza and risotto) were not brought to us at once. My wife had almost finished her risotto, when I finally got my pizza. The crust was good, but there was really not enough ingredients and the middle was swimming in water from mushrooms. Risotto was bland and far from what you expect in Italy. The bowl with parmesan with the risotto was nice, but after we finished, the waiter simply moved it to another table, without even checking, if there is enough inside. And I am not talking about the spoon, that was there for the whole time. We did not return the second night.

Fair rooms, cosy and balanced. Great value for the money during the winter season. The staff was great, helpful and supportive. The breakfast was buffet with a nice selection of cheese, ham, great fried eggs, yogurt, milk, juices, coffee, croissants, strudels, cereals. Dinner at their restaurant was good and also great value. We were 3 couples with different ages and habits and we were all happy with the choice. It’s located in the center with access both from the upper street by car or from the city...

Compared to the high standard and very good value for money you get for accommodation in Italy, this hotel was a bit disappointing considering the mediocre location and the small, uncomfortable private parking. But the restaurant is very good and the taste you find inside the hotel and the rooms is the one you can get in 4 stars hotels in countries like England, Germany or Switzerland.
