The Masseria Spartivento is an exquisite, small (five rooms) oasis of calm, beauty, and hospitality. Yes, the place is not easy to find, as others have pointed out (we did print out Google maps, which were useless and inaccurate), but the reward is worth the trouble. The property itself is a glorious garden of flowers with abundant olive trees. The rooms are impeccable and look as if they come out of Architectural Digest as an example of rustic chic.||||Rare anywhere is the hospitality of Patrizia and her totally accommodating staff. The place has an air of gentility, sincerity, warmth, and calm. The one "average" review is way off base in every respect: Patrizia does speak English and is the guardian angel of this piece of heaven.||||If you really need convincing, then come for the breakfasts and dinners, which are the best we have had in coming to Italy for more than forty years. Patrizia and her two cooks (a younger woman and an older woman) are an encyclopedia of regional cuisine; the recipes are handed-down from mother to daughter, and the preparation is nothing less than astonishing. It is a diet from the past based on vegetables and seafood (do not come here expecting steak and French fries!). The ingredients locally grown, organic, and as fresh as possible, and there are plentiful examples in the breads and pastas of old grains that one did not even know were used any more. The wine list is small (four whites, one rosé, and four reds), local, and expertly chosen.||||Since the place is small, only the happy and privileged few will be able to discover Spartivento. It is not...
Read moreThis was the best accommodation we had in Puglia and one of the best we've had anywhere in Europe in a long time. Patrizia and her staff welcome you like old family members and pay wonderful attention to detail. The cot for our baby was made up beautifully, the rooms were clean, spacious and well equipped and the outdoor tables and chairs are perfect for relaxing in the morning or afternoon. Lying in one of the hammocks in the beautiful garden is about as relaxing a time as one could hope for on holidays.
Highly recommend having dinner there. The meals were absolutely delicious and very hearty and you can then enjoy a glass of wine on the sofa (with the fire going if the weather cools). The breakfast is also excellent.
The beach is a few minutes drive away so we didn't care at all that it didn't have a pool.
Piero is a lovely chap and was an incredible source of information for travel tips around Puglia. All of the staff were warm and friendly.
We had a great stay and will hopefully return one day in coming years. Masseria Spartivento is...
Read moreReally enjoyed our stay at Masseria Spartivento. Difficult to find but lovely calm setting with beautifully decorated rooms and bathrooms - simple and elegant. The garden has plenty of inviting chairs and hammocks, beautiful flowers and shade in which to read a book or laze. ||||Patrizia's breakfasts were far too yummy with the most delicious little ricotta cakes, selection of yoghurt, fruit, savoury.... We also ate in one evening eating typical Puglian food which was delicious.||||Borrow a bike to peddle through the narrow lanes nearby which traverse the olive groves. ||||Would have been nice to have tea and coffee facilities available in our room but that's a quibble. Very quiet, very well looked after, efficient staff and good position to visit Gallipoli, Otranto, Lecce. ||TIP: right next door to Langelo and La Turrito accommodation which are both...
