Be aware of this hotel it simply is not worth the money.i write this review as a seasoned traveler to Tuscany having stayed in many hotels.|We booked this hotel on the back of the hotel reviews and Mr & Mrs Smith reviews as part of our 41st anniversary trip .||The hotel reviews do not represent the actual reality of the place .||- There is only one restaurant, situated some 100-150 yards away from the hotel across the street within the sub standard village. The hotel boasted two restaurant’s .|- There is no fabulous tasting menu available. In fact, we ate once at Divino, and the food was simply disgusting The other restaurant Cucina is now closed, although it is still signposted on the gate.||For information it is a least 6KM to reach the first main road from the hotel and there are no street lights up the path/ road to the hotel up a very windy path /road .|We had to drive 12km to the nearest decent restaurant each night ||- There was no room service as the website boasts.|- If there was a bar as advertised in the hotel it was well hidden, and we did not observe it.|- There was an area specifically set up for breakfast outside, but it was closed. There was no lunch menu available, as mentioned on the website.|We were advised that the restaurant was closed on Wednesday which is contrary to the website.||- Our room, the Paris suite, was substandard. It was a small bedroom with a corridor to the bathroom. The corridor contained a sofa bed and a dollhouse, which was of no use. We had specifically requested a bath in our room. However, the bath could only be reached by climbing steps to a height of 1-1.5 meters, and then somehow you had to lower yourself into the bath. There were no supports to assist in entering or exiting the bath. There were no shelves or drawers to place bathroom or makeup items in the bathroom.|We did not use the bath as it was simply dangerous.||This trip was part of our 41st wedding anniversary, and so my wife had brought a number of long dresses to wear at the aforementioned tasting menu restaurant at the hotel. Of course, this did not exist, but even if it had been open, there was no hanging space for evening dresses. When we mentioned this to the reception, they acknowledged our concerns but did not offer a solution.||Of course, we complained after the first night and were moved to another suite (no bath). This was marginally better, but as mentioned, the bathroom was in poor condition. The shower support was broken, there was mould in the shower, the windows were rotting, the toilet was unstable when sat on, and the door was sticking in the floor so we had to shoulder it open !!|To be honest as reflected by other reviews the hotel is soulless and we spent as little time as possible in it |Regarding the spa that is advertised as free to use, we were advised that we were allowed one session of 90 minutes free, and there would be an additional charge if we wanted to use it again. We asked to see the spa, believing it to be in the hotel, but it was situated approximately 50 yards away down a side street. The spa itself was, in our opinion, very poor and not well maintained. Moreover, who wants to walk 50 yards back to the hotel in a dressing gown? Incidentally, we were advised that if we wanted to use it, we needed to give notice so they could "switch it on."||To state that this hotel was a disappointment specifically at 540 euros a night is an understatement, and in our opinion despite other reviews we should have been given a full refund , but be aware the terms of the hotel state that NO refund will be given under any circumstances |We checked out early as it was simply depressing. And a complete rip off |||There were many other faults that I have not mentioned as I wanted to refrain from the emotional distress that staying at...
Read moreI had a booking at Villa Sassolini last year ( 2020) and due to Covid-19 I was unable to leave Australia. All of my hotels provided a refund or a free cancellation except this hotel. I contacted the hotel directly and they offered me a 3 month extension. I was unable to travel with restrictions so they extended the $500 deposit for 1 year. Unfortunately with the pandemic still active we are still not able to travel. To make matters worse, this hotel was unhappy with the fact that they had been charged a full booking fee from booking.com. Rather than taking it up with booking.com the hotel charged me another 826 euros ( approx. $1340) 13 months later without my knowledge. They said they had delayed my credit for a year and had been charged the fee by booking.com so they felt they could charge me the balance of last years cancelled booking. They then offered me a credit for another year of the total amount close to $2,000 AUD when we are still unable to travel. I am sure it is probably a lovely hotel, hence why I wanted to stay here. However, the concern is the misuse of my credit card details 13 months later without authorisation. I think this is a hotel that is not honest and perhaps safer to book through a third party as I did so there may be some policies in place to get your money back should you also recieve fraudulent charges. I am not the only review on google that has had an issue like this with the hotel. Their reponses were lack lustre and devoid of any sense of assistance. Even with a credit on file, it is certainly not a hotel I would want to visit given this experience.
From your reply you said I was given my money back which is not true! My credit card stopped the charge and a pursuing your for misuse of my credit card. You did not refund either my deposit not the additional charge they you were not...
Read moreWe had a beautiful stay at Villa Sassolini in July 2023. Set in the hills of Tuscany, we enjoyed the tranquility of the setting while still being a convenient 45 minute train ride (or equidistant car ride) away from Florence. So easy to park and ride from Montevarchi station 15 minutes away from the Villa. The tiny hamlet of Moncioni around the Villa is incredibly peaceful with a little bakery/ Bottega that opens a few days a week with gorgeous local offerings and the excellent Vin da Vino restaurant (also part of the Villa group) is available for a quick and delicious meal too. Although, it is hard to move away from the excellent Cucina on site. With stunning views over the valley, sublime food and friendly service, you won't be disappointed. the villa itself is beautifully appointed with wonderful attention to detail and plenty of breakout areas (surprisingly for its small size) while lush gardens and pool area are a haven to share with the cicadas and bumble bees (don't worry - they are only interested in the fragrant lavender in the garden.) There is also an excellent gym and spa that is a few doors down from the hotel (it is owned by the hotel) and if you are interested, you can also book in for a cooking class. All staff were incredibly helpful and attentive, assisting with train timetables, restaurant bookings and generally very friendly. We would highly recommend this...
