We had a wonderful two nights at Locanda Stella in September 2017 as part of a tour of Italy from Genoa down to Rome. The hotel is located 4 or so km outside of the beautiful city of Perugia in a quiet part of town, from where you can easily reach all of the sights and experiences of Umbria.||||The rooms are very nicely decorated and furnished, and have everything you need in them and more. Ours was huge with a balcony and a large bathroom. There's also a communal kitchenette and sitting area too - with a fridge full of bottled water, coffee machine and tea selection that you can take advantage of by just letting Silvia know what you've had at check out. ||||Downstairs is the restaurant, half of which is dedicated to wine (hurray!) with an incredibly broad selection of options from both the local area and further afield. Lots of natural wines and sulphite-free options too, and Arek is an expert on all things wine-related. The food served is in the 'slow' tradition - all home made and delicious - we ate there both nights! Silvia and Arek go to great lengths to ensure you have a wonderful time, explaining the menu and the wine selection with enthusiasm.||||Probably my favourite thing however was the breakfast - all locally sourced - Silvia changes it up each day, wonderful scrambled eggs, maybe some ham and cheese, home made jams and marmalades, breads, fresh fruit, pastries and cakes served with coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice. ||||We're looking forward to our next trip to Perugia! Silvia can give you lots of tips about things to do and see in the area - make sure you use...

Read moreThings to love:||The food is very very good and reasonably priced for such gourmet cooking and attention to locally grown, slow cooking. Sylvia, the chef and owner works very hard to insure your meal is delicious and satisfying. She is welcoming and both she and her husband have built a good business here.||The rooms are beautifully decorated with modern updates, and a common sitting area is welcoming with little kitchenette and cold water in the small refrigerator. The rooms are very clean and spacious.||||Things to consider: It was very hot when we were there, and our room was west facing on the upper story and NO air conditioning. The air was stiflingly hot and the only relief to be had was putting a wet towel on our bodies and laying very still on the bed. The window had to be open to get in any air current at all, and it was so noisy. Dogs barking, and restaurant noise. If you are a sound sleeper and don't mind the heat, this place would work fine. ||I truly enjoyed the atmostphere and it was only a 10 min drive from Perugia. If there would've been A/C, I would've...
