I stayed at Park Hotel Napoleone for 4 nights/5 days and to say that I couldn't wait to leave was an under-statement. I cannot express my huge disappointment and disgust of this so called 4-star property. ||Where should I start... firstly, what is stipulated on their website is the furthest from the truth. ||This property is opened 3 months of the year, the summer months which doesn't give much time for the hotel to be ready (cleaned/refurbished/general hotel maintenance.etc) to greet guests who have chosen to spend their summer vacation in this property. ||The staff are unfriendly and unhelpful and treat you that you are a nuisance. ||The hotel room was not clean, documentation of the previous guests was left in the room alongside a pair of socks (clearly shows the room was not cleaned prior to our arrival). The shower was dirty with hair remains. ||Staying there for 5 days, the pool was cleaned only once which was on our last day.||The website mentions internet available but once you arrive, free internet is only in the reception and near the pool but with the terrible internet reception, the free internet was null and void.||They offer no facilities and given one day it rained with thunderstorms, they didn't have umbrellas to provide the guests to even visit the city centre but reception did suggest to visit a nearby beach as "it is still nice to see when it rains".||One day, I was stuck in the tiny lift and thankfully a fellow guest assisted otherwise the only other person available was the housekeeper who was not useful at all. ||This so called 4-star property needs to be downgraded, it was disgusting and speaking with other guests they felt the same. There was no professionalism or customer service demonstrated and noticed there was only one person who was well looked after, that we discovered later was the owner of the hotel. ||My biggest regret was not reading the reviews before deciding to staying at this property. I strongly recommend to fellow travellers visiting Isola d'Elba please avoid...
Read moreI wasn't expecting much as most reviews weren't that great, but it was one of the few places that I knew did a gluten free breakfast that weren't asking for a minimum 5 night stay (I only visited Elba for 2 nights)||||It could be such an amazing hotel if they just gave it a bit of an update!!||||Plus points||Great location nestled in the hills above Portoferraio. Nice pool. Helpful staff - gave advise on boat tours, and booked them for me. Varied breakfast. (Cereals, pastries, bread, cakes, yoghurt, fruit, boiled eggs, cold meats & cheese. Lovely coffee). I was given a whole plate of gluten free goodies, both savoury and sweet - I found in general Tuscany is fantastic for catering for 'senza glutine'. Spacious rooms, shuttered windows and aircon (even if it is very old) + lockable safe in the room. ||||Minuses||Out of date furniture, decor etc. The beds are not great. In my double room they pushed two singles together and didn't use a double mattress topper, so you could feel the gap between the 2 mattresses. Shower gel is in sachets. Why are hotels doing this? Such a waste of packaging + you can never get enough out of one sachet. Hand / face towels were starched napkins. One of the bedside sockets wasn't working so only one bedside lamp could switch on. The drains were blocked so when the full sink emptied, water and crap from the drains came up through the shower plughole. (Staff were very receptive though when I told them about the issues on checking out). Wifi is available when you're in reception only. I found that the mobile network coverage was very limited in and around the hotel, so it was hard to research the island online. No lift in the annexe (it's only 2 floors) and there was no offer of a help with heavy bags. Cleaning staff ignored the do not disturb sign on the door (not a big issue, but why have the option if...
Read moreWe were two families and booked our stay for one night only . ||||The hotel is secluded and accordingly quiet except for the natural sounds of nature/animals. It looks good from the outside and is, as the name suggests, nestled in a park. The building looked a bit abandoned, but then turned out to be quite a special building from the 60s, worth seeing, with marble floors and stylistically untouched dining room and bar. ||||The simple, clean rooms had good beds, flatscreen TVs and small but clean bathrooms. However, one room entrance had pigeon droppings on the carpet and the walls were dirty from infiltration as the room was unfortunately directly under the pigeon loft.||||The breakfast is ok for Italian standards, nevertheless it is not a breakfast you would expect from a 4 star hotel. The buffet was served to us on the veranda by the very attentive and caring staff, with sufficient choice (with a fine cappuccino). ||||There are enough parking spaces at the Park Hotel Napoleon. The shopping facilities are about 1 km away. One is dependent on the car, especially if one wants to do something in the evening.||||On the whole, the Napoleon is a difficult hotel to rate, because the photos on the website did not correspond to what we expected. In any case, it did not deserve the four stars, even though the past is presented very nicely in this hotel.|| When did Napoleon actually die?||||We cannot recommend the hotel as we...
