The Hotel Torderhoff in San Candido is a good hotel. Notwithstanding that, it's not worth the price paid for the stay in it. When one books online and pays 504 euros per day, as I did last year, one expects to have accommodation at a luxury hotel, but in reality it's not so. The hotel is nice and comfortable but the price exceeds by a wide margin the value of the place. I have stayed in more luxury hotels for half or even one third the price I had to pay for lodging at the hotel concerned|At least, the bedroom was comfortable, particularly the bed, and peaceful, so that I could have a good rest all the days of my stay there. |There are no kettles available for customers, which is unbelievable if the stated price is taken into account. It's the least one could expect to enjoy at a such an expensive hotel. Every evening I had to betake myself to the hotel bar, which was usually run by the manageress, if not by her husband, in order to ask for some hot water. Sometimes I even had the feeling that I was a nuisance to them, which is really unacceptable.|The staff is kind to some extent. It consists only of the manager and his wife, and a room maid who has to put up every day all the hotel bedrooms and do the other typical chores in a hotel. Therefore she is apparently superexploited.|The breakfast is very good. Everything is of a high quality. The manageress is at the restaurant transformed into breakfast room in the morning taking care of the customers' needs. Strange enough however, there is no fresh milk in the buffet. On the first days I had to ask the manageress for it in order to add it to the cornflakes. On the last days she took my bowl on her own initiative once it already contained the cornflakes with no word whatsoever, which was rather humorous. |The breakfast is the only meal one can have at the hotel. If one wants to have lunch or dinner he must drive several kilometers away.|By and large, the hotel is, as stated, a good one. If the prices were moderate and thus in line with the hotel category, and some shortcomings, such as the lack of kettles, were solved it could be a recommendable...
Read moreMy wife and four children and I stayed in the chalet for 3 nights on a driving tour through Northern Italy. Let me just say, we did not want to leave! We came to see the Dolomites but would have been content just to stay and soak up the Winnebach and our accommodations.||||The hot tub and sauna room were the perfect remedy for tired parents after trekking around the Tyrol with our kids. There is a nice shop 300 meters away that sold all necessities (and beer and champagne), so mom and dad were able to relax and soak while stargazing to the peaceful sound and sights of a waterfall and river not 10 meters away.||||The rooms are modern and clean, the beds comfortable, and the kitchen and dining areas spacious and well-stocked. Breakfast was diverse, with dried meats and cheese, fresh fruit and breads, and, of course, European coffee bar.||||When we needed guidance on local hikes and trips, the owner was more than helpful, giving us jumping off points and ideas on the best vantage points to experience the mountains. ||||Finally, our kids loved the playground and trampoline, and there are hikes around the property||to enjoy as well.||||We will be back, if even just to rejuvenate and soak up all that Hotel Tolderhof has to offer....
Read moreI have just returned from taking part with Chapel-en-le-Frith Male Voice Choir in the annual choir festival in San Candido. The festival was attended by 97 choirs from all over the world and we were allocated the Tolderhof as our hotel. The hotel is in a beautiful area just outside San Candido. It is a family run hotel and all the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast is excellent and there is plenty of choice for the evening meal. The hotel has a small bar which is quite well stocked and reasonably priced and there is an outside seating area and if you have children there is a play area for them and you can keep an eye on them whilst enjoying a nice beverage. The rooms are very spacious and clean, we had a nice balcony looking up the mountain. All our choir party enjoyed their stay and it is an excellent base in the summer for hiking and cycling and itis only a short walk (500 metres) from the Austrian border. There is a local bus service into the town where you can take the train to other towns in the area. I can highly recommend this hotel and its good...
