Hats off to Maria and Davide for creating this little gem. Mastro Vanni is a place run by happy, positive people and you can just feel it when you’re there.||Massive stone gate opens to an inner yard surrounded by old stables and cottages turned into cosy, comfortable apartments, equipped with anything you’ll need during your stay. The residence has its own vegetable garden and you are encouraged by the owners to pick some tomatoes or lettuce should you want to prepare your own salad. Nearby, there is a 12,5 m long swimming pool, deep enough should you want to make same splash by jumping into the water. You need to note however it does not have a shallow part for small kids, so be sure to take water wings if you want your little ones to be able to cool themselves in the pool. ||There are only seven rooms, so the place never gets too crowded, still the owners have their hands full of work, especially that they do everything by themselves. And they do their job extremely well – just try Maria’s delicious, home made cakes at breakfast or ask Davide some hints regarding nearby beaches or places worth visiting – you won’t be disappointed. ||All in all – Mastro Vanni is a perfect place for laid back holidays in some distance (not too far, but a car is a must IMO) from crowded Marina di...
Read moreEven if we are very late with this review (we stayed there in july 2016) we really feel like writing it, because this place stole our hearts! When passing the fence, it feels like entering a magic little (well not so little actually..) world! We were happy that we could park the car on the property, we were enchanted with our room which had a decent kitchen, suitable bathroom and a comfortable bed. The breakfast was amazingly good with a mix of standard ingredients and home-made food. The swimming pool was more than welcome during this very hot summer, so we didn't feel the urge to go someplace everyday, as hanging around there was just perfect for us as well. David's perfect english came in handy to explain us everything we needed to know about the surroundings. These elements on their own should be enough to convince you to stay at their place, however, there is one aspect that we find even more important and that absolutely blew us away: The owners themselves. David and his wife were so lovely, and for some reason we felt like visiting friends!! We enjoyed the moments we shared with them, chatting about everything from limoncello to world travels. The other guests staying at the same time just added to this feeling, so it was a more than...
Read moreIf you're looking for somewhere peaceful to spend a few days and explore Ragusa and the surrounding areas this is the place to go! It is located in the countryside (you need a car to get around) and from here you can easily reach places of interest such as the Donnafugata castle, Marina di Ragusa, Modica, Scicli as well as some nature reserves. Davide was an excellent and welcoming host and gave some great recommendations on what to see in the area. I greatly appreciated the welcoming cold tea drink and warm facecloth on a particularly hot day. I stayed in the standard studio which had air con, a comfortable double bed, a bathroom with shower and a small kitchen with the all the necessary utensils needed to prepare some dinner. Outside the room there was a small table and chairs which were great for enjoying the cooler evening air. The whole property, from the room to the pool and the communal areas, is well looked after and clean. I would highly recommend Mastro Vanni and hope to...
