Well, where to start! .... I have being coming to this hotel for over twenty years. However, my last visit was in February 2020 and then Covid hit which took care of the 2021 and then I have been sailing my yacht around the world for the next three years and so this year 2025 was my first year back in 5 years. In a nutshell this is basically a brand new hotel in probably the best skiing location in the Dolomites. Val Gardena is the best ski area in all that it offers in the Dolomiti SuperSki area in my opinion formed over the last 20 years of skiing the whole of the Dolomiti Super Ski area. This is a from a skiers perspective, as I am here for the skiing, scenery, food and wine and the best lift system anywhere in the world (I have skied in over 25 different resorts worldwide) and the apres ski is not high on my priority list. (on that point there are plenty of apres ski spots in Selva (the town below Plan de Gralba and one can get a taxi back to the hotel from right outside Bar le Stau - the top Apres ski spot in Val Gardena IMHO !! The hotel was unrecognizable to me from when I last saw it with all new rooms, new lobby, entrance, dining area, bar, lounge, spa and pool, ski locker and boot area, ski hire in the hotel and the list goes on and on. The revamp has been done so elegantly and tastefully with great functionality and incredible attention to detail. That is all well and good but you need to match that with a good service experience and the new team at the hotel (now called Das Berg Hotel) have taken this to a whole new level. The staff are friendly, very efficient and nothing was ever to much trouble. The staff all speak English fluently besides Italian and German and the local dialect amongst others! Fabio the barman, to Chris the Maitre d and sommelier to Jasmine at reception and others, the whole team was world class.
Some of the other highlights of my visit back to the hotel were: The new ski lockers in the new ski locker room that are linked electronically to your door key. These are the best ski lockers I have seen by a country mile as overnight it dries out your gloves, helmet, wrist guards, goggles, boots, skis or board and poles and you have space to store your suntan cream and tools if you need to work on your gear. I even hung my ski jackets there on the hooks on the door. The new spa it truly put the cherry on the top of this hotel. Literally and figuratively as it has been moved from the basement to the roof of the hotel. The heated pool overlooks the slope that stops 25 meters from the hotel so you can watch your friends finish their last run of the day from the pool. Incredible!! The large sauna also has a view of the ski slopes and has beautiful piped music (nice touch) I did not use the steam room. There is nice refreshment area in the spa and a separate section with day beds to chill after your spa and long day on the slopes. The wine cellars (yes there is more than one!) and tasting room. The wine list is rated as the top wine list in Val Gardena and I see why! ..... Chris and his team did an excellent job in paring our wine requirements to our food, budget and taste in wine every single night! This was no mean achievement given that we took up three tables in the restaurant! The lounge and bar area, is a great place to meet before dinner and Fabio does an amazing job running the show. The breakfast and dinner were amazing at every single meal. The fresh orange juice machine was a treat to use every morning! The cappuccinos in the morning scored 8.5 out of 10! .... I am a coffee snob! I did not come in my own car (I got a taxi from Innsbruck airport) but the upgraded parking area has to be the biggest in Val Gardena! Both above and below ground.
So needless to say I will be back again same...

Read moreWe had an excellent stay. This hotel is outstanding - modern, comfortable, interesting architectural details, great lodging (nice rooms, well appointed) and incredibly clean/well maintained. ||I loved that the hotel offered many opportunities for spending time in "private" spaces around the public areas of the hotel (TV lounge, bar, cigar lounge, wine cellar, game tables). ||The hotel has a gorgeous, very characteristic bar - well stocked and with great energy. The restaurant is stylish, and the kitchen works at a level of quality that you would find in a Michelin guide (It is also very helpful to be able to order "off menu" if the set menu does not have your ideal selection). Wine list is vast with regional Italian selections and international wines - and the wines are priced very fairly, with some real bargains on the list (international wines sold at or below "retail" rates). Chris is an outstanding and highly knowledgeable sommelier - a person you can trust when pairing wines with local food. ||The spa is exceptional with its outdoor heated pool having direct mountain views. The spa area is really clean, well organized and comfortable with a large sauna and steam room. Ski room is really well organized, convenient and spacious (it may be the best ski room I have seen in Europe - equal to the level you find in high end resorts in places like Deer Valley). ||Hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. Hotel owners are accessible, informative and friendly. In my experience, it is unusual to have a hotel of this quality so close to the ski lifts. Walk 100 steps and you are on the lift. Don't miss this hotel if you are staying in Plan di Gralba. My highest recommendation for an "on...
