If you enjoy mountains, alpine meadows, sparkling lakes, long walks and fresh air, Sud Tyrol is the place to visit and Reiterhof Edelweiss is the perfect place to stay!|We recently spent 10 days at the Edelweiss and would recommend the hotel wholeheartedly!|The charming rooms have a chalet feel and some have balconies overlooking the majestic Dolimites. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and extremely clean with functional bathrooms with plenty of hot water! The family run hotel looks after you like you were part of their family and go out of their way to be helpful and obliging-- we were able to keep medicines in the fridge and have sandwiches organised for day trips. The dinners are delicious and hearty with great variety and the breakfasts are extremely substantial. The hotel has a laundry service for guests.|Edelweiss is situated in the Saltner area with many walks and hikes all around. The hotel has horses for rides through the woods. There is also a hiking bus that will take you to different points to start your hike. There are several guest houses around that also serve meals. San Genesio is a couple of kilometres away and has grocery stores and cafes. |Edelweiss makes a good base for discovering the Dolomite Road, the many lakes and alpine towns in the area.|We would love to return for another holiday!||Tip for drivers: Do not use Google Maps to find this hotel -- you will be sent on a very long and steep route through the hills! Instead, drive past Bolzano and follow signs for Jenesien/ San Genesio Atesino. This will take you a couple of kilometers up a mountain road and through 6 tunnels. Right after you pass the village, head towards Flaas/ Valas and on your left you will see a small road with the hotel name on it. Once you take this road it's a kilometre...
Read moreWe originally booked one night at this hotel, but upon arriving, were mesmerized by the beauty of the location and the comfort of the hotel. We changed our plans and stayed another night. I wish we could've stayed more. From Bolzano, it is about half hour drive up the mountain through several tunnels and sharp turns. Just outside San Genesio, on the left side of the road, you'll see a small wooden sign with the hotel name. From there you have to drive further up the mountain on a narrow paved road through the woods. It is a little confusing because there is only one small sign that says 1km to the hotel, but I believe it is more like 2 km, so keep driving until you reach the hotel. The hotel has amazing settings. A restaurant with seats inside, as well as a big terrace outside across from the main building. We had a very nice room with a balcony and all new furniture, and a nice bathroom. The food at the hotel restaurant is very good, and the included breakfast was tasty and plentiful. The owner's son who runs the place, is very helpful, catering to all your needs. You can do plenty of hiking from the hotel. The scenery is gorgeous! We hiked about 1 hour to a farm which had an outdoor restaurant serving food and beer, much needed after the hike. The hotel is the perfect setting for a vacation among nature, where you will enjoy amazing mountain views, nice meadows, horse back riding, and...
Read moreI had to visit a fair in Bolzano, hotels are almost full and costly, so I looked for nice towns around. I found this incredible place on the top of a mountain, after San genesio, just where the road ends ! (so... I would prefer some more road sign for the hotel...) but the effort is Worth. Fantastic place in the Woods, excellent, warm welcome, aboslute quiet, noce rooms, breakfast with home made jams... Amazing. And what a sight ! highly recommended, Worth a detour. If you have food intolerances, ask them, with a few euro they will provide a gluten and or lactose free breakfast, very very...
