Stayed here in March 2015 for 3 nights. I was snowboarding with friends who were staying at Stella Alpina for a full week, and I needed somewhere that would accommodate me for a few nights.||||Room was unbelievably cheap. I booked with expedia and with a discount from Quidco it was around 30GBP per night. I can't remember the last time I have stayed somewhere so cheap, and I am sure the main reason for this was because it was end of season.||||I believe the hotel was nearly empty. I only saw the check in girl twice the whole time I was there, and only 2 other guests. The check in desk was only manned for a few hours a day and I was always out during those times. The check in girl did see me arrive and checked me in early which was handy. ||||The room was a fair size, with an old TV which I didn't use. The curtains were incredibly thin, but you could opt for the shutters with total black out. There was no safe (which I was expecting from the description, but it did have a large lockable wardrobe- that would offer little resistance if forced TBH). The room was warm though and I could dry my gear in there easily enough. I was on the 3rd floor, there was no lift (that I was told about), so this was a bit of a trudge.||||The bed was an old springy thing, and the overthrow looked like it had seen better days, but the sheets were clean. The room was cleaned each day. There was wifi, but when I tried it I could only just about read the news, and that was slow. ||||The bathroom was small and poorly laid out. I thought there was no hot water but I learned it took about 10-15 mins to run the water before it heated up, (maybe due to lack of guests?). Shower curtain was mouldy and missing 30% of the hooks so I flooded the bathroom every time I showered.||||In terms of location it is good for the coach park if you are going to the French side of the ski area, but an uphill trudge to get to town and the Clotes lift (but downhill on the way back making it easier after apres!) I was also able to park my hire car directly outside which was very handy (my friends had to lug all their luggage up to their hotel at the Clotes lift, at least I did not have to do that). There was also a ski gear room which I stumbled upon the last day I was there.||||If I had seen the staff I may have mentioned the shower curtain and long wait for hot water and the slow wifi, but as I was out from about 8am to midnight each day I didn't really have the chance, and these things did not affect my stay that much.||||Overall you get what you pay for, and for me this was a bargain, although the price would not have to sneak up much for me to expect a higher standard. I would say this is good for young people with little money and low expectations, who have the stamina to climb stairs as well as the uphill...
Read moreI booked the Piccolo Hotel on a whim & after paying for it realised the hotel I looked up on the net wasn't the same Hotel Piccolo I paid for...same name but different hotel in a different town albeit still Italy! But upon arriving I was pleasantly suprised as some of the reviews don't do it justice...the rooms were spacious enough for one person, & for what I paid for 14 nights it makes Australian ski resort prices seem like you should be staying in 5 star accommodation in St . Moritz! Not only were the rooms spacious; they were warm, clean, comfortably appointed (complete with bidet...which I never used for a multitude of reasons! lol) & the breakfast was great, with bottomless (...& great tasting!) coffee & food options that yet again, don't belie the price. Alexandra, the ever so friendly, resident hotelier, went "above & beyond" to make the stay as good as it could be...& she was a wealth of information, & all in very good English so that even a uni-lingual Aussie like me could get accurate info on everything from prices of things, to where best to get them, to special offers on ski hire & lift passes...what price can you put on that kinda' invaluable info?!|As I'm writing this I have a mate joining me for my 2nd week...that's how much I recommend Hotel Piccolo, Sauze D'oulx - like I said in the title, most definitely "the Small Hotel with...

Room warm, clean about 10 sq mt plus shower etc room en suite.||Balcony (and shutters if you like pitch black) and ski bus stop within meters saving a 10 min struggle in equipment or 5 min in trainers.||I would have preferred a half board chalet but took what I could get. ||Can not fault Neilson and with decent weather and snow Sauze and Vialatte are superb with all the centres from Sauze to Montgenevre providing good skiing and good(ish) connections (cry your eyes out Verbier and your 4? valleys).||I describe Piccolo as decent and good value and this massive area...
