We stayed in I Mullicchi in June, the best time to visit the Puglia region we were told, for in July and August the Italians themselves travel south for their vacation. And indeed, June is a wonderful time to visit Puglia, if you don't like tourist crowds. The cottages of I Mullichi lie hidden between the olive trees on a hill from where you can drive to both the Ionian and the Adriatic Sea. If you're looking for peace and quiet while being able to enjoy the cultural and natural beauty of the region, this is the place to go. You will need a car, as the nearest shops and restaurants are not within walking distance. ||||Room:||We rented a superior room, as we were traveling with our two year old child, and we wanted to make sure the room was large enough. I haven't seen the standard rooms from the inside, but it might just be that those are big enough too, for couples traveling with a baby or a toddler. We brought our own cot and there was more than enough space. The cottages are build in a traditional regional style, with thick white walls to keep the heat out. We never used the air conditioning. Each cottage consists of two rooms, but they are build so cleverly, that you never really notice that there's another room adjacent to yours. We had a couch in the room that probably could also function as a bed for third person or a child (you should check). The windows had screens to keep the mosquitos out, which was nice. The bathroom was clean and practical. There's a little refrigerator (minibar), just big enough to store some drinks or some fruit. Everything was very clean and spacious. Outside we had a lovely terrace with an old olive tree right in the middle. ||||Breakfast:||Breakfast is served on a small terrace outside. All products were fresh and local. Not a very big breakfast buffet, but the quality, we thought, was good. ||||The pool: ||We absolutely loved staying at the pool. Often we would have it to ourselves or we'd have to share it with just a few people. It's right between the olive trees, which makes it so nice. Nothing extravagant, it's a nice pool, with enough sunbeds, but the surroundings will make you feel like you're in paradise (well that's how it was for us anyway). ||||Also: ||The owners are super friendly. We were lucky enough to taste their cooking twice (they don't run a restaurant, but every now and then they cook antipasti and serve really nice simple and fresh dishes). ||This is the type of resort for people who like the peace and quiet and don't need much...
Read moreLocated in the hills overlooking Specchia, i Mulicchi is a small sized resort composed of app.10 villas, in the middle of olive trees and fig trees. Beautiful, peaceful, it is more of a romantic place than of a family-friendly place. Although villas sometimes encompass 2 rooms, we felt that we had total privacy and did not see much of our neighboors. The owners are absolutely nice, willing to go the extra mile for you (we asked for a pic nic on the last day and they went out for bread just for us...), and you can feel how much they love their place. Yet they are rather quiet, discreet and not pushy, which is striking in Italia :) ||Rooms are large, modern, well equipped, and there is air conditioning. Breakfast is great. The pool is nice, narrow but long enough to swim in, although a bit cold, and not as welcoming as it could be (add umbrellas, make it slightly cozier...maybe the location by the reception is not the best, but there's no easy fix there !)||||I've read complaints about it not being an actual resort. I don't know what defines a resort, i Mulicchi is clearly not an all-inclusive resort where you can expect to find food anytime anywhere and staff all over the place for you. But it is charming and I would recommend it to anyone wishing to explore the South Salento and at the same time stay in an authentic, well equipped place.||||Last but not least, a few words about the location. Specchia is a lovely city, with few tourists but a nice atmosphere, restaurants, and an amazing frantoio (ancient olive mill) that you must not miss (guided tours organized by the local pro loco). From Specchia you can radiate towards the West (Gallipolli and south), the South-East (Leuca, Tricase), and even the North-East (Otranto and its lovely coastline).||||We loved it and hope to...
Read moreWe stayed for 4 nights during a 10 property Italian road trip, so this review is relatively objective.||Easily found, and given the size of the rural property, parking (under cover) wasn’t a problem.||A large property, allowing the units to be well spaced out with lots of privacy.||Large, well maintained pool which perhaps could do with some large cantilever umbrellas, although to sit out in the shade of the trees was very pleasant. An hourly ‘bar service’ is provided during the day, although we never used this.||The units are traditional in style - so are cool even in 30+ temperatures - we didn’t need the aircon. Windows are insect screened. Spacious, clean and comfortable with a modern bathroom/good shower pressure. Small patio for sitting out with an early morning coffee.||Welcoming host and friendly staff.||There’s no evening restaurant, although a simple/basic basket’ meal can be ordered in the morning. We used this once and found it well presented and tasty. Breakfast served on a pleasant awning covered patio, was an excellent affair, with unusually, eggs being cooked to order to supplement cold meat, cheese, fresh fruits/vegetables, yogurt, cereals and the ever present pastries. Excellent coffee. Easily our best breakfast in Italy by a street mile.||Excellent WiFi which even extended out to the pool area.||The only niggle was that there was no ice on site, the small mini bar fridge in the room didn’t have the capability and the office/breakfast kitchen didn’t provide any.||A good base for...
