We stayed two nights at Il Mulino as the final stop on our two week journey through Italy.||||Upon our arrival it seemed as if the place had been abandoned. When we were able to locate members of the staff it seemed as if they were neither expecting guests nor had any clue as to how to greet guests. The fact that no one spoke English only added to the confusion. ||||Eventually we were shown to our room, which was lovely. The room was spacious, clean and appeared to be recently refurbished. The bed was by far the best we have had in any of the hotels we have stayed out across Italy; both mattress and linens were perfect. ||||After we got settled in we made our way to the pool. As we made our way across the property we still felt as if we were the only guests there and that it was off season; the latter being far from the case. The beautiful pool area is located high up on the slope of the property overlooking the olive fields and valley below. The pool seemed brand new and the water was clear and perfectly cool. ||||We had made reservations for dinner at the restaurant in the evening at 20.00. Showing up a little early we asked if it was possible to get an aperitivo as we were waiting for our table to be ready. We were told that they only had wine - so no negroni or americano before dinner - and that we could get a glass of Prosecco. It was not what we wanted but the Prosecco was perfectly chilled and deliciously crisp.||||Dinner was served out on the restaurant terrace enjoying the beautiful view that can be seen from everywhere one the property. The food did not live up to the expectations that we had from reading reviews on TA. That being said some of the dishes were very good. Most notable was the gnoccho. A gnocchi stuffed with mozzarella covered in a great basil sauce made from the herbs grown on the property. The varying success of the dishes was to a certain extent compensated for by the prices. The menu items - especially the wine - was very sympathetically priced. Last but not least the local wine on the menu was excellent and paired well with a menu heavy in basil. ||||The gardens and grounds overlooking the valley is gorgeous and makes the property in itself a true ||gem. The herbs, flowers and hundreds of butterflies flying around really makes the place beautiful.||||Yet, between the absence of English speaking staff and the feeling that we were staying at the house of strangers who really did not want us to be there it was hard to relax as much as you should be able to in a place like this.||||The place really has potential but the owners needs to focus on an holistic experience of the place; restaurant and cottages/rooms. ||||At the moment it feels a bit as if we were borrowing a room to hang out in while waiting to have dinner at...
Read moreI can’t really describe this place and do it justice. Everything from the staff, the food (including their own wine and olive oil) and accommodation was luxurious. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left our stay was incredible (so incredible we decided to stay 2 nights inst ad of 1). The attention to detail in everything was top notch. We stayed in one of the cottages with a large comfortable room and bed with a gorgeous bathroom with a rain shower. The food was spectacular and made by chef Stefano. The views were amazing and the smells from the flowers and herbs aromatic. So many butterflies and bees we couldn’t count. When this place is totally finished (pool being built) it will be quite the destination in the Taurasi wine region (great for vineyard day trips). Better get there soon before it gets fully booked months...
Read moreHad an amazing stay here! It was recommended by Sara at theauthenticirpinia.com and did not disappoint. It made for a great spot to anchor ourselves for spending time in the local towns and exploring the agrotourism. The country house was tranquil and beautiful with a wonderful view. Four of us each occupied our own chalet, each impeccably clean. Wonderful breakfast provided daily as part of your stay. They are open for lunch and dinner, but works best to let them know at breakfast your plans for the day. Sturno was a fun town to walk around and enjoy the authentic local culture and history. We arranged for a olive oil tasting with the owner of the country house and it was definitely worth it. Would...
