Alpaca Farm Maridiana — Hotel in Umbertide

I just got home from a week-long stay at Maridiana - sunny everyday - perfect spring weather to bring out the flowers: poppies, calendula, wisteria, and all the trees and shrubs had burst forth just a few days before we arrived. Simply lovely - a relaxing and peaceful setting with alpaca quietly munching the lawns but keeping an eye on us strangers. Marissa and Gianni are both gracious, welcoming hosts. The farmhouses have all the amenities you could wish (the wifi is a bit erratic but if you're patient you can be connected to the rest of the world if you wish - although a visit to the alpaca farm is a wonderful opportunity to untether yourself should you want to). Many nearby towns and hillside villages to visit. Interested in textiles? - hemp fabric making, linen weaving, lace crafting all can be visited on a leisurely day trip. My partner and I were in Perugia, Umbria for a month and we decided to head to this farm for a visit. It was about a 50 minute drive and was certainly more than worthwhile. Gianni and his sister hosted us for close to 2 hours, educating us about the origins of the alpaca farm and the many uses of alpaca wool. ||They also showed us around the place and we had a delightful conversation together. The farm and estate was beautiful, and had two beautifully done up guesthouses that one can book and stay at. ||Getting to interact with the alpacas was certainly fantastic and a highlight of our time in Umbria!||Highly recommended. È stato il mio primo incontro in assoluto con questi dolcissimi animali e arrivando in questa bella tenuta (anche agriturismo) abbiamo chiamato il signor Gianni telefonicamente, il quale ci ha risposto ed è sceso da casa sua e ci ha fatto incontrare gli alpaca che per le alte temperature estive riposavano all’ombra in una stalla tranquilli… Il proprietario con pazienza e passione li ha fatti uscire, facendogli fare un giro e dandoci la possibilità di giocare insieme; sono dei patatoni morbidissimi e tenerissimi.
