Il Rigo is a charming rustic farm house sitting atop one of Tuscany’s most beautiful rolling green hills. The three rooms which our family stayed in were all recently renovated but still retained some old-fashioned charm. Each room has an amazing view from their windows. The beds are very comfortable and extra blankets and towels are provided. The bathroom is modern and shower pressure was very good and shampoo & soap were provided. The first night of our stay we had dinner at Il Rigo. The food was delicious and healthy. There were vegetarian options (preferably inform them beforehand!). Dessert was white acacia flower fritters, an unusual and pleasant surprise. Breakfast was served buffet style with a selection of very delicious local cold cuts and cheeses. There were two types of healthy rye style bread, made from organic flour produced on their own farm, that could be toasted and several condiments to go with them. Coffee, hot cocoa, and a variety of teas are available in addition to water and organic apple juice. The real highlight, though, was the fresh breakfast cake and biscuits – both of which are as tasty as they are good to look at. There were also milk, yogurt and cereals. Blood oranges were very juicy and sweet. Although the food choices were not vast, but the quality was good. The hosts, e.g. Luisa, Matthias, Martina, Lorenza, and Vittorio were very nice and welcoming. Luisa gave us good recommendations on wine and cheese farms as well as nearby towns to visit. This definitely is one of the most memorable stays among many places that we travelled to in the world. We would definitely want...
Read moreWe only stopped there for dinner, but enjoyed our favourite meal of our Tuscany trip. Made up of locally sourced food and prepared by family members, we saw four courses of a “taster” menu that was delicious and filling.
Because of the rain earlier in the day, everyone was sat inside in a rustic farmhouse environment. It was very intimate, with a handful of tables each individually lit, and our walk from the car park to the house led us through a beautiful arched garden.
We emailed a week before we intended to dine and received a prompt reply the following morning. When we booked, we’d forgotten to mention a dietary requirement which would have stopped one of us from having the main course. However, they were very accommodating and were able to conjure up a delicious substitute at the last minute. The staff were warm and chatty.
The taster menu was €35 per person (excluding drinks). We felt this was extremely reasonable for the quality and standard of food we had. Would definitely recommend to anyone...
Read moreI booked this place because I read that it’s a ‘photographer dream’ and … it definitely was. Sunrises and sunsets are amazing here, truly breathtaking!||We appreciated the hospitality, the kindness (Neomi is truly 5 stars!) and the location which sets it apart from others. ||In the ‘I wish I could’ list there is:|- a/c. They gave us fans and those helped a lot. |- shampoo/conditioner. I appreciate the commitment to sustainability but the soap bar alone has limitations.|- dinner was unfortunately in line with the reviews. Absolutely amazing one night and meh the other. Nothing in between. It’s rolling the dice for €40. |- the room key. Oh the room key. I do love that this is an old and cherished farmhouse but the room key does not work unless you wake up everybody you are with while trying to get out. It’s so so soooo finicky and so so soooo loud. ||Bottom line: read the reviews, align your expectations and book it. It’s a...
