This place is very poorly managed; I am surprised that any of the employees stay for any amount of time. I tried to have a relaxing glass of wine in the lobby while my partner napped before dinner. I had to endure yelling by a woman who seemed to be either the owner or manager -- for OVER 45 minutes! I almost got up to tell her to shut up, but I was afraid that she would yell at me, too! Was she yelling at an employee, or a vendor over the phone? Who knows! The staff all looked like they were walking on eggshells all of the time. My guess is that they will now be yelled at because of this review -- "Why did you not tell me a guest was in the lobby while I was yelling?" Granted, the resort was very empty, so perhaps she did not know that her yelling could be heard all over the public areas. Which brings me to another point -- almost empty property, but we were put in a "handicap accessible" room, (which had a view of the construction site next door), which meant no enclosure around the shower. I have not seen this in Italy since I rented a cheap pensione in the 1980's. We flooded the bathroom every time we took a shower, which made the floor dangerously slippery. So, we put our used towels on the floor. There was a sign in the bathroom about how the Val d'Orcia is (was?) in a drought and that we should not ask for our towels to be laundered daily, but -- well -- our towels had to mop up the bathroom floor. Additionally, we complained twice that our toilet would not stop running (talk about water waste!). Twice they came and "fixed" the problem, but as soon as we flushed again, it ran non-stop. It was audible water-torture that we had to tolerate in the night. Also, we were granted the use of the spa pool the first night, but if we wanted to use it the second day, it would cost us 30 Euros each (!). When we checked out, we were told that we owed 120 Euros for the use of the spa pool! We told the woman that we only used it the first night because we were told it was gratis, and that we did not use it at all the second day because 60 Euros! After some time talking to someone else, the woman at the desk (not the yelling woman) removed those charges (but we were still charged 7 Euros for "mandatory" swimming caps). I am sure the nice man who let us use the pool was yelled at for this. The breakfast buffet was poor and the baked items were stale. The one redeeming aspect was the restaurant next door, which was absolutely welcoming and amazing, unlike this excuse for a resort. Save your money and...
Read moreThis hotel has amazing views with a very short walk to town. I loved every second of the views but the service was not great. All of the staff at the front are very very rude except one young gentleman. We rented the "Residence - Bilocale Superior Two Rooms valley side - 50 Sqm" which does not include breakfast and they only give you fresh towels after 6 days - for us at least. I would not recommend this room unless you live in Italy because it truly includes nothing and the kitchen is extremely small and not practical, It's in a wardrobe. My wife tried the breakfast our second day there (just once) because we didn't have a chance to get anything from "coop", the grocery store, yet and they were not friendly about it. I had previously asked in email about the breakfast which is €15/person/day which is way too expensive for the quality of breakfast and when I checked in, they asked if I wanted it which I replied "No". I found out they tried to charge me for the entire stay anyways saying that I was there when I actually never went. They insisted to me that I was lying lol. We were supposed to be there 10 days but a family situation came up so we had to cut our stay short. We left 4 days early and the hotel would not work with us even a little to recover some of the stay. You would think they'd at least credit 1 day back as that's plenty of notice but no. They just said you booked it so now you live with it. They also make you pay the state tax I'm cash which was €40 for my stay. Overall I would say it was an okay stay but I will not be back as the service and staff were not great. The prices are also definitely a bit high for the quality of room you're getting. The residence is literally just two normal rooms that are joined by a...
Read moreThe hotel is popular with photographic tours as its location is superb for views over the Tuscany rolling hills . There are a variety of rooms some have sunny patios , best at the back of the hotel . Our room was decorated in a period style twin beds , lovely soft linen & towels , whirlpool bath with shower , bidet too . A/c easy to use . Really clean. Safe & plenty of storage space . No tea making , although some rooms have a kitchenette, but no kettle. Good sized room . Yes maybe style is a bit dated but it is in keeping & I don't like modern concrete blocks of hotels . The heated indoor pool with water jets , free to guests is a real bonus in early May when the outdoor pool was too cold . The public areas are nice, there is a bar . The breakfast room is not lit by daylight and the continental breakfast is adequate , but no fresh orange juice , no fresh hot eggs , but has a toaster for the English . Lots of cakes & types of croissants but not freshly baked . Excellent coffee machine . The walled village of San Quirico d'Orcia is a 7 min stroll . Lots of restaurants & old narrow streets to explore with a central main street & square by the church . Reception staff will...
