I was able to secure the last available room here back in March for our visit the beginning of August 2017. This room faced toward the back of the property so we didn't have any beautiful views out of the windows, but I knew that since it was the last available room, there was probably a reason! The room itself was fine and the bathroom was very spacious and clean (though bath amenities could be updated; they looked quite old and the lotion was not actually full). The property itself is in a stunning location and given the heat wave while we were there, the pool was a welcome amenity/necessity. ||Related to the heat, I was disappointed that there was no air-conditioning on the property (not in our room, and not in the common breakfast area) for the price we paid per night. We would have been happy with a well-functioning fan, but the only one the housekeeper had for our room was old and didn't work very well. Let me make it very clear--we are not "air-conditioning" types. Neither of us actually likes air-conditioning, and prefer fans...but with temps 40c and above, this became a real factor in our comfort. In retrospect, we should have contacted the management about, but I suppose my overall impression was just curiosity that the Palazzolo had not invested in cooling devices other than the pool. Anyway, we took cold showers and didn't dry off every night before bed, which allowed us to sleep in some comfort. ||It would also have been nice if there were a few more amenities available for guests, aside from breakfast--perhaps some wine and cheese in the evenings, considering that the nearest restaurant (also owned by the property) is a 25 minute walk or 10-15 minute drive away. ||The housekeeper was lovely and was as helpful as she could be without speaking English. ||As others have mentioned, you need to have a car to stay here. ||Overall, even with the cooling issues, it is a lovely, peaceful place to stay and we enjoyed...
Read moreMy husband and I enjoyed an incredible 3 nights at La Foce in mid-October, in celebration of our 5th anniversary. I can’t say enough nice things about our stay: our room was spacious and very comfortable, with incredible views of the surrounding Tuscan countryside. While it was a little too cold for swimming, we had a very inviting pool just steps from our front door, with some comfy chairs next to it, perfectly positioned for watching the beautiful Tuscan sunsets (or sunrises). Our morning breakfasts were incredible: even though we were the only guests on the property our first morning, we were treated to a fantastic spread of cheeses, homemade pastries and cakes, meats, fruit, and cereal. We were seated in a cozy library outfitted with a bevy of beautiful books about travel, art, and of course, gardening. (Our setting was almost too comfortable – my husband and I had to drag ourselves away, and there’s not normally much that could keep us from gorgeous Italian wine country.) Finally, the morning of our departure, we were treated to a visit of the gorgeous La Foce gardens. I could have spent the entire day strolling around the gorgeous flowers and shrubs and exploring the little trails creeping up the wooded hillside. Walking through the gardens and taking in the views of the incredible rolling hills that surrounded the property was truly a dream, and I can’t wait to...
Read moreThe view from a property beautiful, but the view alone is not worth it and most of the rooms are on the back of the building so can't enjoy the view at all anyway. The B&B is 1.5 kilometers from the main building/reception desk down a death defying one lane dirt road with no room for another car going the opposite direction. There is no staff onsite at all and, if anything had happened at night, we/you would be completely on your own.||||The B&B itself lacks comfort or services of any kind: the beds are hard, the furnishings are poor, and there is no noise isolation whatsoever, so you are constantly woken up by other guests talking or leaving their rooms. The advertised air conditioning in the room also didn't work and there was no breeze so the room was hot.||||In addition, the breakfast was poor. It was just toast and cereal and was served only for one hour each day from 8:30 - 9:30 am. If that time didn't work for your plans, you are out of luck. There is no other food available and there is no kitchenette or basic cutlery, so you always have to eat out.||||The reception staff is nice enough, but is essentially unavailable, since they are 1.5 kilometers away and they are only open from 9-12 and 3-6...
