The Hotel Del Faro located within the Pugnochiuso Resort complex is set against some of the most beautiful nature I've seen. The hotel is bright and airy and the luxury suite that we stayed in, looked out to the sea with gorgeous views. The room was very comfortable and well-appointed. If you don't speak Italian very well, or not at all, this will probably be an awkward stay. This is a mostly locals resort with very few English speakers. Don't expect the staff to speak more than a couple words of English. Unlike the big tourist cities, this is mostly a local getaway and is not as accommodating to visitors who speak only a little Italian. This is a very family-oriented hotel with buffet service for dinner which costs about 30Euro per person. It's not easy to find low cost meal options within the resort unless you plan on eating pastries. ||||Knowing a basic level of Italian has been enough to get by in other villages and towns in Italy, but I struggled with communication here as it's definitely off the beaten path. It was my mistake for not realizing how remote the resort is, and obviously I don't expect the staff to speak English, but my level of Italian wasn't strong enough to comfortably communicate here. The staff generally did not appreciate my trying to speak Italian. We were faced with more than one case of judgmental giggles when we tried to communicate. This is a great getaway for the locals and Italian speakers, but I wouldn't recommend this hideaway for anyone with an elementary fluency in Italian. Beautiful & relaxing with views to die for, and lots of summertime activities...
Read moreMy family and I have spent a week in this hotel, and will definitely return. ||We booked directly with the agent, Marcegaglia, and enquired on the different types of accommodation available. The agent was very helpful from the start, and found us a combination whereby we had 2 intercommunicating rooms, with the most amazing sea-views and balconies overlooking them. Both rooms had en-suite, air-con (independent, available 24/7), fridge, hairdryer, TV, etc. The rooms were fully serviced every day (as you would except in a 4-star establishment), and the care taken by the cleaning staff was exceptional. Our full board included wine and mineral water. The food was of a seriously high standard, and the choice was plentiful and covered the variety of international cuisine, including the breakfast offer. Each meal saw 4 courses for all guests. I am coeliac and indicated this at time of booking: my food was always prepared in an uncontaminated environment, and I was allocated a waiter that looked after my every needs for the whole week. The hotel facilities, including the pool and the gym overlooking the sea, the bar, etc were well looked after, and made our stay all the more special. The free transport within the resort meant that we didn't have to make the short walk back from the beach at lunchtime, when the heat could be overwhelming. There was also plenty of free entertainment available throughout the day, as well as in the evening. All in all, I couldn't recommend it highly enough, and it makes the bendy roads negotiated on the way there all...
Read moreThe staff of Hotel del Faro were really quite unhelpful and often a bit rude - particularly so because we spoke very little Italian and relied on them to speak English. If you need wifi, I would not recommend staying at this place, the Internet only worked in common areas and didn't work in our rooms, not an observation, they actually told us at reception that wifi only works in common areas. To add to this, only one person from each room can access the wifi at any given time!! Oh! And I forgot, each room has a daily allowance of 250mb.||||About the room: when we first walked into our room, the room had a stench that I could not exactly put my finger on... We figured it came from the bathroom drainage.. But then we layed on the bed and realized the smell was from the blanket on top of the bed. It smelt of vomit - I am not exaggerating! And I cringe to think of the hygiene practices as this resort. The pillow cases whilst had been washed, had a stench of cigarette smoke, the linen was obviously from a smoking room and for a non smoking couple, it was very uncomfortable to have to smell cigarette stench on your pillowcase whilst sleeping. The room itself was a little dilapidated, the bathroom was quite outdated. For the price we paid to stay at this hotel and resort, we were really left in shock... ||||On the upside, this resort gives you access to one of the most beautiful beaches with the bluest water we have ever seen. Get there quick though, given the shady trees on the mountain, the sun is only out on the beach from morning until...
