My wife and I were looking for a vacation that we could just simply enjoy each other while relaxing in a wonderful location that was free of children, loudness and crowded areas. The Rockhouse in Negril completely satisfied our wishes. This is an exotic locale in the West End of Negril overlooking the incredible Caribbean Sea and the easily visible reefs from the gorgeous cliffs that run along that part of Jamaica's coast. The view alone is priceless, but the Rockhouse is so much more.
What sets it apart from other resorts I was initially looking at were its incredible villas and the fact that the whole resort is built within the natural area as if was a part of it. These villas are small and well laid out for couples who really want to be with each other. There are tall sliding glass doors to allow the weather, the sun or the view inside or shades to stay secluded. The Villas have excellent storage; separate room/WC for toilet; outdoor shower with a high wall to only allow the sky inside with you; small fridge; mini bar; air conditioner if needed; comfortable bed with netting if needed as well; small radio with a cord to use music player and lastly and the best NO TV. With a view like this, no HD or 4K TV could replicate. The villas have the feel as if you were on a very tiny island and these huts were your housing. Step outside or in your outdoor shower and there is lovely fauna everywhere you go in the resort. As a huge plant lover, the grounds have many varieties of tropical and native plants. This means the sites and sounds of birds singing and chirping. If you're lucky you might see a hummingbird dancing amongst the flowers as I did.
There are 3 restaurants on site. The main Rockhouse Restaurant which has an amazingly good full breakfast, lunch and dinner options plus it has a healthy juice bar inside as well. There is the pool bar & grill which is lighter on the menu side, but more than makes up for it with the bar side and how good its food is also. Lastly is the Pushcart, a more Jamaican style eatery with great food and drink plus occasional music or DJ's. All 3 restaurants more than satisfied us. Being a vegetarian, I must say there are enough options plus they will try to make something to fit your needs. An example was the Ackee without saltfish. I want Ackee always now plus I had it in another dish the Rasta Pasta (Pushcart). The Lentil Burger for me and for my wife the Jerk Chicken at the Pool Bar were probably our favorites.
They have a full spa on their grounds and it is top notched! We had the Essence of Love package a 1 hour full body massage & 1 hour facial. It was so good that we went back to our rooms and fell back asleep. Complete relaxation.
Saving the best for last...The Staff. Everyone from front desk to the restaurants to the maintenance to the maid service were all simply beautiful people. All friendly. You're greeted throughout the day everywhere you go. Spark a conversation and you will truly find the beauty of what makes the Rockhouse so special. If you are are really looking for an experience to enjoy the person you love, the Rockhouse is a great choice and I am so...

ROOMS: They book out fast, year round is what I have found. We have stayed in both a studio and villa. We enjoyed them both. They offer privacy. The rooms are large and clean. They don't have tons of light or TV's -- which we loved and wanted! Noise isn't a problem but because they don't have windows made of glass, you can hear noise of others at times. There can be mosquitos but the room provides organic buy spray as well as the typical amenities as well. Excellent house keeping. They surprised with fresh, local flowers just about every day. It can be dark dark at night both walking around the property and the room, but not to be worried. We loved the bathrooms and the stone throughout. A very organic stay. The bed were comfortable and we loved the bed net at night.
GROUNDS: Beautiful and full of lush flowers and well maintained. The property is unique and thus what adds to the appeal. The water is remarkable beautiful and makes for a fun trip and photos, or just to gave at from the villa or pool, or restaurant. We spent most of our days cliffs, or pool, sometimes snorkeling, jumping off rocks. A beautiful place, very serene. There is also paddle boarding as well. Water is not rough here, compared to some of their counterparts. We saw beautiful fish, dolphins and I believe whales (couldn't tell for sure, just large mammals jumping out of the water nearby at night). Pool service from the staff working at the bar was incredible, they did such a great job and were so prompt with taking your order, cleaning up etc. Also, DEFINITELY book a spa. We did a couples spa which was the most incredible we have tried in many of our global trips.
RESTAURANTS: We tried both the Rockhouse and Pushcart for dinner and lunch which was nice at both - yet on the pricier side. Breakfast at Rockhouse each morning and always enjoyed! The Pool Bar was also delicious, especially the red snapper sandwich. Happy hour was 5pm until sunset and great value.
LOCATION: Great location on the west/southern end Negril. Nearby is a mall mini mart which I used to buy water and some other shelf grocery items. Each day you can take a free shuttle to Negril beach and they drop you off at their sister hotel- Skylark. Highly recommend, it is a 10 minute ride. If you're eager, it is a short route taxi ride to other west-end highlights like Rick's Cafe etc in one direction or the main town in the other direction. Route taxis very easy to catch from the front of property.
SERVICE: We were very impressed by everyone, from start to finish. Very friendly and always ready to help. 5/5 service.
Although this is not a typical high end 5 star (thank God this time, and not to say there is anything wrong whatsoever), it is a 5 star experience of an oasis, to really get involved in nature, relaxation and no technology. Come for peace and fade into the beautiful scenery that is worth every penny. Highly recommend and we...
Read moreBEAUTIFUL property! The staff at the front desk was pleasant and drink upon arrival! It was our honeymoon and we were given a complimentary gift at the SPA which was amazing and thoughtful! Sometimes it is JUST the little things! A smile and drink after a long travel to a beautiful site make all the difference. Communication is via WHATSAPP which I thought was awesome! I do think that there should be an option for bar service on WHATSAPP since there are private areas and no one checks on you so having an option for a chat with pool bar staff might be a good idea since a lot of guests want to stay at their private area. The property is breathtaking for sure!!!! Private, secluded, and unique. We were near the spa and not far from the pool and had a great private spot of our own which was amazing! I would make sure to ask where you will be located. The water is breathtaking. It's clear and beautiful. We snorkeled and swam. Snorkel gear is NOT FREE to hotel guests which I think should be re-considered as there is no beach. The gear is not great and we ended up having to share a snorkel because one wouldn't seal and changed it out and still didn't get one that worked and we were over it, nothing high quality at all! There is no beach but stairs down into the water which you will never be able to touch the bottom just standing. There is a shuttle to the beach daily to the sister property. The food selection was better at the bar. It's off the cliffs and is absolutely beautiful. Words do no justice! The sunset was amazing and nothing I have ever seen before. The staff was friendly at the hotel only at the hotel did we experience bad service a couple of times .... a smile goes a long way we are vacationers, we know you at your job but we paid a lot of money to be here and we were on our honeymoon. Every morning there was never enough French press and there was NO gluten-free option at all excluding a complete segment of the population. In a country where cassava and roots are readily available and commonly seen in gluten-free products. Overall our experience was amazing. The rooms are NOT insolated and it never got cool in our room and it was set at the lowest setting. It was tolerable and we could sleep and thankfully a ceiling fan but it does not get cool in the rooms but a trade-off given the location and beauty of it all. We would for sure come back to...
