I finally spent the night here and was thrilled with the experience. A few months ago, I came and used the onsen during the day and had lunch. I love this little Naguri valley. It is conveniently located less than 2 hours away from my house. I love to come out here and go hiking 🥾 名栗温泉 大松閣 feels isolated because there's no train line. There's only a bus and a narrow road. But that's what I love about it. It's the perfect getaway. I used one of the private baths this time, which was a fantastic experience. I used the one that they called wood 木. The other one is stone 石 and the other one has hot sand. I want to try them all.
I forgot to book dinner beforehand but didn't feel too hungry. Breakfast was fantastic. Tasty and local.
Overall, the 名栗温泉 大松閣 staff was extremely kind, and the facilities feel luxurious in a rustic kind of way; I am so happy here. Thank you for keeping this place so unique for so long. I don't know when it first opened, but it feels like it's been here long and is a local treasure. The sound of running water, the quality of the onsen ♨️and the delicious food make this rustic beauty feel like a dream.
If I had to complain about something, it would be the pillow. I know, how trivial! I preferred the option of a flatter pillow. The nice fluffy one did not work for my small neck. Next time, I will ask the front desk if they have another option before turning in for the night. Also, there is not much English signage, but I have lived in Japan long enough to figure most things out well enough.
Thankfully, I already have my next reservation made for April. Thank you, 名栗温泉 大松閣! I want to keep coming back for the...
Read moreWe stayed in their fantastic’Humming’ villa a few hundred metres away, so I can’t comment on the bedrooms in the main building. We did have use of the onsen facilities, lounge bar and ate our meals here. The building is nestled in a pretty, wooded setting a few hundred metres up a lane from the Iruma river. A calming stream runs through the property, where there’s also glamping available. We stayed 2 nights so made use of 2 different onsite restaurants, washoku one night and sumibiyaki (bbq) the next. The meals were beautifully presented and tasted as good as they looked. There was plenty to eat and the meal service was very polite and professional. We were able to reserve the private use of a very nice large, family size hot spring. We relaxed a bit in the main lounge and bar, where there’s free coffee, ice creams and also beer in the afternoon. There’s a small library with a very interesting selection of history books and manga and also a toddlers play corner. The owners provide excellent hospitality. I really appreciate that the landlady puts her heart into it and everyone clearly works very hard to ensure guests are well looked after. It’s a lovely place for a quiet, calming break. We loved it and will...
Read moreThe hotel was the worst in my life. The young woman’s employee and a man were quite aggressive. They couldn’t stop a complain to me. They said we can’t use a coupon, which many people receive from the government. They said we needed to get a vaccine, but there’s no information about it. I said ok I’ll pay a regular price; however, she couldn’t stop I have to pay a regular price. Also another man came up, and they both looked down on us . It was like we’re low level people, and the woman employee and a man employees were high level people. They’re not! The hotel is very expensive, not them. They are wrong thinking who are they. I paid $500 each person so total was $2, 000. We often go to many different hotels but never had the workers to treat us low level. I shame them as being human. I know why they have huge problems because of a manager. The manager has terrible temperament, but I’m sure the top boss never known . The manager always lies that why! The hotel...
