The Sunset Cove hotel is set in an absolutely stunning location above a deserted beach in a prime sunset location on beautiful Ishigaki island.||The hotel is small and intimate and set on beautiful grounds with a stunning beach cove. The rooms are functional but clean, and the recommended rooms fit our family well. Some rooms have amazing views over the ocean.||Service is mostly good if sometimes a bit chaotic and the food at the restaurant was very good even though the choices were often quite limited. The Yakiniku course is excellent value and a wonderful experience that everyone should enjoy once during their stay.||The hotel provides free kayaks which are fun to take out to the calm waters around.||The hotel is conveniently located with most sights and services a short drive away. There is a restaurant at another hotel next door which is also worth trying.||This being said, the hotel had some issues that reduced the enjoyment for our particular group (Might be fine for others).||There were many lost opportunities in terms of the common areas to make them accessible and appealing. There were sofas outside the restaurant perfect for an afternoon drink but the staff didn't bother putting cushions in them so it felt a bit strange. There was no bar service at the pool (even though there is a bar there, it's used for storage). Many common areas lacked the beautiful views the hotel commands with trees and foliage in the way.||There are no provisions (umbrellas, benches) for the beach which on one hand gives the beach deserted charm but on the other hand makes it less of a place to take it easy over an afternoon. ||Finally, we were quite significantly inconvenienced by the inflexible schedule, with breakfast closing at 9am (Does not exactly fit the schedule of a quiet day on the beach) and dinner also closing quite early, giving limited opportunity to enjoy the glorious sunsets at the hotel. Particularly the breakfast issue bothered us as it would have been easy to leave out the limited buffet for a little bit longer.||Overall our experience at the hotel was enjoyable but we think this hotel has the potential to become...
Read moreWe stayed 2 nights at the Sunset Cove and the experience was extremely disappointing. ||||To start with, the villas in the Sunset Cove are not actual "villas". There is completely no secluded area nor any privacy. The yard very nice, yet it was shared so the neighbours could technically walk by and peek into your house through the glass door while you were in your bikini or underwear (which actually happened to me in the very first day). The "villas" are also so close to each other that they offer no personal space. The other house kept the light on for the entire night in our first day and the light was shining through our bedroom curtains. There was no hotline nor working hours specified in their information either so we had no other choices but to tolerate it.||||Moreover, the facilities were very old. The hairdryer was very old and yellowish, and even at its highest speed it ran super slowly so I gave up using after the first day. The doorknobs of the bedroom wardrobe was rusting. The cove provided toothbrushes and toothpaste yet the toothpaste was like jello and did not melt in my mouth at all. It fell out like a squishy jello ball. The quality of the toothpaste was horrifying. ||||As for the infrastructure, it was not well kept care of either. The swimming pool was very dirty and lots of dead bugs can be found in it (see picture). At the end I did not swim as I had concerns about the water quality. Worse, the private beach that they have is more like a piece of land with sand. It has lots, and I mean a whole lot of broken shells and small stones among the sand so there is completely no way to lay on the sand (see pictures). Some parts of the "beach" was even not covered by sand so we could see the stone underneath. Apparently nobody has been keeping care of this "beach" so I found it very unjust for these people to use the "private beach" to promote their accommodation. ||||The Western Breakfast was delicious, but the Japanese breakfast comes with a very limited choices of food and they were not even tasty. ||||All in all, we has a very disappointing time staying at the Sunset Cove and we do not...
Read moreWe had a wonderful time at Josh and Claudinéia‘s place. It is in the north part of the island which has more wild nature and less population than south. But also that can be reached within 30mins drive. Josh has several cars to be hired from him directly so no need to hassle to rent anything from the airport. (recommended) The hotel also takes care of the Aiport Transfer of the guests. The hotel is situated by a wonderful private beach at low tide you can also reach a larger beach to the left. The combination with the pool makes it ideal for families, and kids are warmly welcome. Josh equips everybody with recommendations of spots to see on the island or places to go and dine and also helps out with reservations as it can become difficult sometimes to reach out by phone. Rooms are quiet with a great view and beds are very good. We were missing a bit of storage shelving but everything else made up for that. Beachtowels and daily cleaning are provided. The breakfast is -non japanese- fresh egg dishes are made to the point, fruits, bread or freshly baked cakes give a wonderful start to the day. We can highly reccomend this warm an welcoming place as well as Ishigaki...
