I had a wonderful stay at the Lilac Hotel. The location is excellent - right in the middle of rural Kyushu, with stunning views of farmland and mountains on the horizon. About an hour's drive from Kagoshima. ||||The food was also great, with a wide selection of dishes. There is also the option to have a barbecue, which I didn't do myself but looked excellent. ||||The rooms are clean with good amenities - television, shower and bath, etc. Comfortable beds. ||||The most unique thing about Lilac Hotels is the abundance of animals. The hotel is home to two dogs, a cat, two goats, chickens, cockerels, chicks, and dozens of rabbits (which bounce around freely). I would imagine this would be great for families in particular. ||||I also can't praise the staff highly enough - warm, welcoming, some of the friendliest people I have met in Japan.
