I stayed here three nights in late April 2018. I hadn't actually done enough research before going, and when I got there I discovered that most tourist establishments and sights don't normally open after the long winters until 1 May. Even the public buses were running on very limited routes and schedules, making it quite hard to get around. Given the lack of public transport I thought I would rent a car the next day so I could at least wander around Shimokita, but it didn't work because I didn't have an International Driving Permit. I was starting to despair that I had messed up my vacation by not doing enough detailed planning in advance.||||The Miura family running the hotel stepped in and saved my vacation. They went above and beyond in trying to find and arrange interesting things I could do while there, despite it being a week or two before the normal season starts. They called around multiple times and found out that the tourist boat to HotokeGaUra might be making their first sail of the season on my second day. Early in the morning they confirmed it was sailing, wrote out all the bus timings, and I was off for a nice day. I was the first tourist of the year at HotokeGaUra. Then, despite the odds, they kept digging and found that the famous Osorezan was having a kind of soft opening the following day. After multiple calls, they confirmed I could probably get in. Since the buses to Osorezan weren't running yet they then called around different transport companies to negotiate the best half-day taxi rental price they could find (not insubstantial in Japan). So, my third day I was off to this unusual and powerful mountain temple. I was the first tourist of the season there as well. ||||Besides the above, the room was very clean, the food was very good, and I had a nice view out over the port where I could watch the many commercial fishing boats coming and going. However, the staff were the star of the show. In the hundreds of hotels I've stayed at, I have never had staff take such a personal and deep interest in making sure I enjoyed my stay. I wouldn't have been able to get the latest local information and make all the arrangements myself, and so I can say without exaggeration that the Miura family, through deep concern and force of will, turned what would have been a very disappointing vacation (due entirely to my lack of preparation) into a very nice and...

The food here is absolutely delicious — especially the tuna sashimi! It’s honestly the best I’ve ever had. I’ve tried tuna in Ōma, a famous tourist spot, but the flavor here at this hotel is far superior. Whether it’s ōtoro, chūtoro, or akami, every cut is incredibly fresh and tasty. The akami I had in Ōma tourist spot, on the other hand, lacked flavor and had a texture — similar to what you’d get in an ordinary restaurant in Japan.
The onsen is wonderful too. Because it’s a small hotel, there aren’t many people, so it feels calm and unhurried. The atmosphere is completely different from the big onsen hotels — much more relaxing...
