ONSEN review: amazing local onsen!! Entrance ¥500/outdoor or ¥200/indoor. Kyushu onsen stamp available at the reception. Shampoos provided, you need to bring your own towel. Operating time 07:30 - 23:00, there is parking. I took the outdoor onsen, there are two, a mixed gender one (the one I used) and a female-only one. There are lockers for ¥100. The changing room is a small wooden house with bamboo baskets for your stuff. The outdoor tub is really big size and its location is perfect, surrounded by lots of greenery, trees, and there is a small stream passing next to it. One part of the tub has a small structure which acts as a cover in case of heavy rain. The water has a milky brown color full of minerals, its volume coming from the source is high (500lt per minute!) and the temperature is around 40 degrees Celsius which makes it perfect for long soaks. The big rocks around the tub complete the beautiful natural setting. There is a small circular stone basin with onsen water coming directly from the source, you can wash up there with the provided stool and bucket. On the other side there is one more stone basin with cold water flowing in case you want to refresh yourself. When you finish bathing there is a nice area to relax next to the reception, due to the high concentration of minerals expect to sweat a lot after bathing! All the facilities were excellent, clean and the atmosphere very relaxed. This is definitely one of the hidden gems in Kyushu, definitely worth a visit if you are in the area! Sodium magnesium calcium bicarbonate spring, pH 6.6, gensen...

You have to know, as we do, when you select an old property like that, that there won't be an elevator, the toilets will be Japanese (squat) style - we're fine with all that.||The Rotenburo (outdoor bath) is beautiful! The building itself is a classic wood structure.||Our bedroom was a little on the small side, with only a toilet and cold water in the sink, but that's fine.||The food was excellent, and especially the little old lady who served our dinner and our breakfast was super sweet.||The only problem is that, being as old as it is, the building has no modern heating, so small portable kerosene heaters are used, which produce a bad smell and some smoke :( Shinseikan should make the difficult investment in installing modern heating. And if would be nice if they added Internet - there's no Internet in the hotel, and the area has very weak cellular/mobile phone signals.||We DO recommend Shinseikan, for travelers who understand and value, as we do, the authentic...
