When consider Towada Prince Hotel visitors probably aim to visit the Towada Lake and the Oirase Gorge. Several things to bear in mind. Folidge at the Oirage Gorge is breath taking at this time of the year - it is around 30 mins drive from the hotel and you will need to get there early (suggest before 10am) to secure parking which is limited. The sun sets at around 5pm in October which can get pretty cold and so time for walking along the lake near the hotel is limited to the morning and early afternoon. The hotel is 15 mins drive from the village (where the lake cruise and tourist information centre is). We could not find any independent restaurant (ie. not attached to a hotel) in the village. ||||As far as we can tell, Towada Prince is a higher end offering compared to the hotels clustered around the village which seem to cater to tour groups. The gentlemen at the reception were friendly and helpful, and speak fluent English. As other reviewers mentioned, the hotel grounds is lovely. But we arrived at the hotel at 3pm and so not much time to appreciate the surroundings. I think one would get more from this hotel in the summer time and with one full day at the hotel. The hotel onsen is nice. And since we were not able to find any restaurant in the village we decided to eat at the hotel which was a pleasant surprise. The restaurant serves French cuisine with both fixed and ala carte menu. An entry from the ala carte menu adding salad/bread/coffee option came to Yen 3,650 and the dish was competently prepared. The fixed menu is around Yen 7,000. ||||I admit my overall rating for Towada Prince would go up if not for the rather high room rate. We chose Towada Prince Hotel because all the hotels near the village were booked up. I am not sure what advantages these hotels have over Towada Prince (room rate aside) as the village is dead after 5pm at this time of the year. One option in fact is to stay in Towada City - hotel rates are significantly lower than those by the lake. Visitors could drive from Towada City to Oirase Gorge in the morning and explore the lake in the afternoon. There is ample parking in the...
Read moreWe had a very nice April day visiting Oirase, taking the Towada cruise and ending up at the Towada Prince for the evening. Reading the yearly reviews below, not much has changed...but that does not reflect negatively at all. ||||The Towada Prince "strengths" include a great lakeside location. For the outdoor person or nature landscape lover, its creates an awesome serene ambience. For the more active, I saw couples walking or running lakeside which would also be spectacular. The rooms with lake views also provides quite a wonderful dawn or dusk show. ||||The outdoor "onsen" is at the end of the wing facing the lake is also very NICE. In my opinion, this was one of the best experiences...relaxing your body, mind and spirit in this pristine location!||||The Towada Prince dining experience was also very good...wonderful presentation and delicious.||||The hotel rooms are still the same as in the photos, but comfortable. Wifi is only available in the lobby area but slow. The lobby area is small with a souvenir shop. The lobby is not generously staffed in the late evening or early morning hours, but the staff is gracious.||||Overall, the Towada Prince provides a quiet casual ambience which blends quite well with its wonderful lakeside location. Your mind and spirit will be comforted and serene. Towado-ko is the star attraction and the Prince...
Read moreWhat a great hotel. A surprise from the moment we pulled into the parking area, then in to the front entry, then to reception. I had no idea what I was booking apart from a twin room for 3 nights with meals. The reception staff were very welcoming and helpful. The room was a standard twin room. Nothing fancy, but clean and practical. No complaints there. The lobby and common lounge area was huge with and awesome view across the immaculate lawns and the lake. The onsen was really good. Big changing and washing areas, then the big outdoor tub with views was excellent. Very relaxing. The biggest surprise was the French dinner ! Wow. Multi course meals were delivered by attentive wait staff. The meals looked and tasted great. The view from the dining room was across lawns and lake. Breakfasts were Japanese based with the usual Western influences or options. Overall this hotel was excellent. Highly recommended. The whole Lake Towada / Towadako area is so nice. Lots to see and do. A rebound in tourism to the area is well deserved and required. Go visit this beautiful area. Fall would be especially pretty, but...
