I stayed there with my friends two weeks ago. When we planned on Unazukionsen we found many options. Most of them are not too far from the Unazukionsen station but this is one of the nearest. We booked this because we have a lot of different Japanese ryokan experiences in our past travels to other part of Japan so this time we decided to try something diff as in buffet dinner instead of the typical Kaiseki dinner. Another reason is the view from our river view room is amazing. When we arrived the hotel, everything was good including the staff service and yes, many foreigner tourists, my first impression was then impacted as you don’t get the peaceful Japanese onsen hotel or ryokan feeling because it’s very noisy despite surrounded by the nature. We further disappointed by the onsen which I have to admit that the view is superb. But the crowds and during our stays, we both ( male and female) experienced super unhygienic scene from other uninformed tourists (I would say 80% of the crowds are not aware or not read the notices of onsen manner). I can see kids running around in onsen , people talking out loud like in a swimming pool, towels in the tub to clean their body).. if it’s not because of the view, I would just step out from the onsen immediately. And the buffet dinner, the variety is great but the quality to me is normal. It’s not bad but it’s not great. And again the crowds, the manner of queuing at the buffet area.. although is not entirely the hotel fault, but it does impact the overall experience of a onsen hotel or ryokan. I will go back to smaller scale Japanese onsen ryokan in the future. This is too commercial and touristy to me. And staffs could have stop or advise the crowds better especially when certain crowds keep...
Read moreThis is a large modern ryokan onsen hotel which means if you are looking for a personalised intimate ryokan experience, you won't find it here. Nevertheless it has all the right bells and whistles for a comfortable stay in the style of a Japanese ryokan - just upsized! Everything is larger - the tatami rooms that housed our family of 7, the large tiered outdoor baths, the dining hall that felt more like a huge cafeteria. No kaiseki style meals but a generous buffet (or viking as they call it) that includes a free flow of drinks - including alcohol! The food was good and the variety was wide. Nice public areas that include facilities for table-tennis and even a small rock climbing corner for children. ||||The hotel also offers a shuttle service to and from the Kurobe-Unazukionsen shinkansen station, convenient for guests. From the hotel, it is only a 5min walk to the train station that would lead you deep into the beautiful Kurobe gorge. ||||Great views from all rooms - including the onsen baths, the lobby etc. Guests see the hills and the river as well as the iconic red bridges of Unazuki Onsen. It's a nice splurge for us in the middle of our trip but one that we enjoyed greatly. ||||The only downside if at all, is spotty wifi reception in the rooms with the best signals only in the...
