We had a wonderful stay with Yoriko-san and her father. The idyllic countryside refreshes your mind and body and inspires you to be energetic and productive when you go back to city-life. The samurai house is over 100 years old, with traditional Japanese fireplace (irori hearth), and real samurai swords, bows, glaives. Yoriko-san and her father are very warm and kind people, and we enjoyed greatly cooking and spending time with them. The house has adjoining rice field, with water wheel, and also a mini poultry where we saw, freshly hatched chicks.

Unique, special experience. The old thatched roof minka house, surrounded by rice paddies, been standing there for ~650 years. The wonderful hosts are the 26th generation of the family which lives here. Sleeping in this magnificent house and preparing and sharing dinner with the lovely host family was the most authentic Japanese experience I've ever had. Just 80 minutes bus ride into the mountains above Kyoto, well worth the trip for a few days.

We found this magical little farm-stay, 90mins north of Kyoto. A truly unforgettable experience spending a few nights in a 200+ year old, Edo-period thatched roof house that had been in the hosts family for 20 generations. The local area was amazing with plenty of gems to find and explore. Thank you for having us Yoriko 🫶🏻
