The location of the hotel was a short distance away from kurokawa onsen town so you would need to drive there to see the hustle and bustle. The service staff was generally attentive and were able to answer our queries in english. The shared outdoor open air hot springs had a good view.

The food that they served was ok. on the first night, the dishes that was served was mainly local fish and most of them had alot of bones, and some of the food was served lukewarm so the fish was starting to smell. we enjoyed our dinner on the second day better with the horse sashimi.

The room that we booked was a detached room with a private outdoor and indoor bath. The room was neatly set up when we arrived and it was cosy. however, not long after we settled in, we noticed that the room was very dusty. the ceiling lamp shade was badly torn and had layers of dust on it and some of us were constantly sneezing when we were in the room. The private outdoor and indoor bath that we were really looking forward to had thick calcium buildup on the tap and the tub and pool area was slimy. It was uncomfortable and we didn't enjoy ourselves. We have stayed in other ryokans before and unfortunately oogiso left much to be desired. Given that we paid extra for a private bath. it was not...

My favourite ryokan in all of Kyushu!

The staff were friendly but gave us the space we needed to enjoy the peace and quiet the place offers. In the middle of nature, we even so a friendly badger on our way! The rooms were cozy and (in the middle of the worst cold wave in the last years in japana) warm enough! Futon were big and cozy, we slept like babies.

The baths were veeeeery nice, with the snow falling around us it felt magical. From the mixed bath we could see the stars at night.

At night, the dinner was plentiful and tasty. I could have kept eating forever, it was delicious and only left me dreaming of breakfast the next day. Indeed, breakfast also was amazing.

Since there was quite a bit of snowfall during the night, the staff offered to give us a ride to Aso! Which was, needless to say, of great help, since we had come by bus and walking.

Thank you very much for making this stay a wonderful, familiar and cozy experience.

Visited in Nov last year and I still have fond memories of my stay here. Lovely hospitality, food was delicious and we had a comfortable rest in our room. Unfortunately it was typhoon season so we were unable to enjoy the outdoor bath in the day, but we got to enjoy it the night before.

We were extremely touched when we were given a bag of their homegrown rice as a gift ๐Ÿฅบ Carefully brought it back to Singapore despite travelling with only backpacks and cherished eating every bowl of rice when we were back home. Thank you for the beautiful memories of my first...
