Oyado Nonohana is a traditional style ryokan. By that I meant this ryokan is family run, practices the traditional ryokan ideal in its service, its cuisine, etc.. I am making the distinction as we are seeing the growth of modern style ryokan that operating like a hotel, introducing chic/modern decor, innovative cuisine etc.. Oyado Nonohana offers what a ryokan experience may be like over 100 years ago. ||||Service was impeachable and it was done with lots of heart. Staff truly anticipate our needs before we know it. However the very personable service came through discreetly and we fell completely at ease throughout our stay. Most staff do not speak English but we can still feel the heartfelt care they have for us. There was no communication issue as they have one English speaking staff. ||||The kaiseki dinner was prepared in traditional style. It was one of the finest I had tried. The food presentation was exceptional like art pieces. Lots of discipline must had gone into the preparation. ||||This is a mid-size ryokan located in the midst of nature. The whole setting is timeless and tranquil. Decor is mainly wood based and tastefully done. Its outdoor onsens which over look a stream is lovely. ||||Prior arrival arrangement was done through email in English with ease. Ryokan driver was promptly waiting for us at our arrival at the bus station. The ryokan is about 15 minutes drive from the Kurokawa town center.||||It is a very memorable traditional...

We stayed just one night here a few weeks ago, and I wish we'd stayed more.||||We had a room on the second floor of the main building with a private bath - which was awesome! The room was very traditional, yet extremely spacious, with the tatami mats. The futon was set up in another room, so no need to put it out yourself. Lovely garden view from the window. ||Down some rustic stone steps was out beautiful bath room - a huge private area with a vanity room with mirrors leading into a fully stone-lined wet room and massive, steaming stone bath. A window next to it so you can look out to the garden.||The dinner was particularly delicious - about 8-10 courses of the most beautifully prepared kaseiki morsels, with some pretty reasonably priced wine too.||A huge thank you to the girl who looked after us during our stay. We couldn't have hoped for better service, and she was also extremely pleasant, engaging and her English was impeccable which made things a little easier. Because of my tattoos we knew we weren't allowed in the public bathing area, however our hostess arranged for us to have a little 20 minute private dip with the public area all to ourselves after hours, so we could experience bathing next to the river.||I can't recommend this place highly enough. Desperate to go...

We stayed for one night in early April 2025. A real pleasure. The staff is amazing, trying their best to communicate even when we don't speak Japanese, they were great. Food was delicious and the private onsen was used serval times. Be aware, the onsen is hot. If you're not used to it, please try in before going to a ryokan with a private onsen, so that you can fully appricate the experience. If you're used to Finnish sauna or similar, you'll be fine. We slept in a house called Shion, with western beds and a private onsen bath, 67sqm. There's a room with traditional japenese seating, and one with western seating and a massage chair, a small kitchenette, toilet, and a room with two western style beds. We had a rental car which was very convenient, and after our stay at nonohana we went to Mount Aso, which is in the region, but please make sure to think about your transport here, it might be more inconvenient if you don't have a car. If you can afford a night at a traditional luxury ryokan, Nonohana is a great option.

This is an amazing Ryokan. With great service, food, large rooms embedded in nature. Real hot springs sources (up to 80° C) Each dependency or detached house has its own hot spring pool. There is also a beautiful public bath. So if you are not staying in the hotel you may pay for a day bath. Having a bath surrounded by nature, looking at vegetation and trees, listening to crickets and cicadas while relaxing in the natural spring bath is hopefully something close to what we may get in heaven Food was great and is served on separate private rooms, so you may go as well for the food The place is very private and you don’t see the other guests. Highly recommendable place to experience Japan, hot springs, great hospitality and great food. You may take the bus from Kumamoto or Hakata to arrive here, just ring them when you arrive to the bus station in Kurokawa Onsen and they will pick you up.Just great! And good value for money

Big room with 2 beds bedroom and tv upstairs with one toilet, abit dark and cold. I prefer downstairs, but toilet also dark and washing basin and pantry are right outside. Haven’t tried out the massage chair nor walking outside the little garden. Luckily have found 2 deers walking around the bushes, the half open onsen風呂 is attached to the garden and also able to see deer while bathing inside. Most of space we don’t use but my kid was very happy running around playing with those sliding doors.3 sets of yukata was prepared for us and dining in a private room too. The ryokan staff are very friendly and surrounded by beautiful momiji. Highly recommend to take a walk around the hotel and take some pictures. The concierge staff is very helpful and help us to book kart rental as well as same group hotel’s private onsen for free!
