This hotel is a mixture between the sad and the good. The sad is comprised of little things – sticky tape on the carpet in the passage outside our room presumably covering a patch, the toilet seat unable to stand up when toilet was being used by men, you need to go to the onsen for a shower, as none available in the rooms. Outside the grounds also look rather unkempt. The first two and the last could easily be rectified with just a little money being spent, whilst the third is an inconvenience rather than a fault.||||However the good things far outweigh the sad. The location is near the Iya Valley and the Oboke Gorge. Inside the hotel, the rooms are spacious and airy, you sleep Japanese-style on the floor with a futon. We had a very good traditional Japanese meal in the evening although rather limited choice for breakfast the following morning. The staff are friendly and cheerful although I suspect some do not speak much English.||||I would certainly be prepared to stay here again although it might not be my...

The rooms themselves were clean, dormitory style - but very dated, dreary and dark. The hotel is quite large, so it was a trek to the bath/onsen.. and walking around at night the hotel at night was kind of creepy! We had a car - so in terms of location there were no complaints - 5minute drive away from food. Everything in the Iya is so spaced out anyways, so it would be almost impossible to have accomm that is "centrally located". It was good for a last minute booking - but if you're planning a trip to the Iya,...
