We spontaneously decided to go for a ski trip and booked this really nice looking ryokan a bit outside of Niseko. In a local onsen guide it was even listed in the first place in a number of onsen.||Looking forward to spend our vacation there we booked it for three days from Feb 4th until 6th 2017. Including heating cost, excluding any meals, we paid about JPY 38,000 (more than EUR 100,- per night).||We arrived short before 8pm and the reception was already closed, but the key was left there. Then the owner came around the corner and greeted us saying “ah, you found the key, good” – and went off. Nothing like “welcome to our place, hope you will feel comfortable”. That was somewhat unexpected, esp. as we are travelling in Japan for the forth time and always made a very positive experience.||Looking forward to a comfortable night, we found the room rather dirty. It smelled dusty, finding the reason beneath the bed, where dust was piled up more than 1cm and for sure not vacuum cleaned in many months. The woollen blanket right on top of the sheets and underneath the bedding was full of hundreds of small black hairs getting hooked there over the years. Also on the sheets we found several black hairs. We complained the next morning about it asking for a cleaning under the beds and also hair-free blankets. Coming back in the evening the same (or similar hairy) blankets were put again on the sheets. The floor was only partially cleaned, as the carpet still showed many grey dust piles.||Also the onsen area was really filthy. The shampoo and shower gel dispensers were moldy and also around the water basins it didn’t look inviting.||||Conclusion:||Positive: When you like back country skiing and being out of the crowds, this place is almost perfect. The water quality of the onsen is said to be healthy. When you are lucky, you can meet nice other guests in the onsen.||Negative: Owner is not friendly, no service is provided, complaints are not taken seriously. Rooms and onsen are not clean. You need a car to get there, at least in winter there is no public transportation.||Have a look at the pictures to get your...
