Ryokan Yukiguni — Hotel in Rishirifuji

We were here for 3 nights in the middle of winter to snowshoe up Mt Ponyama and Mt Rishiri. Arriving at the airport, the owner picked us up and drove us to the Inn. Some people may say it is too far out of town, but it is not. Those people should learn to exercise as the town is literally 500m away. I have never stayed in a place that has such a spectacular view....perhaps a mere 8m from the ocean. The rooms were cleaner than a plate, and the plates were cleaner than an operating theatre. It is a traditional inn, so you sleep on the floor on a thin fold-out bed. Walls arnt thick, but the Japanese are so polite they hardly make any noise (they did invent Ninjas) Despite a several feet of snow outside the premises is heated so well that i was in a t-shirt and shorts most of the time. The food is 100% traditional Japanese- a mystery box/lucky dip for me.....but all very delicious, healthy and immaculately prepared. The highlight was the onsen. The idea is that the rooms dont have individual showers, instead, on the ground floor they have a seperate male and female onsen where you wash your aches and pains away in the mineral waters. There may be a naked dude or two, but it is all in the spirit of things. If you want a traditional and hyper clean experience where you wear a kimono around as a dressing gown, sit crosslegged to eat, sleep on tatami mats and have untainted Japanese hospitality that is as pure as the waters of the Mt Rishiri snowmelt......stay...

Really nice and tidy traditional Japanese accommodation. They do a free shuttle service to and from the airport. 宿とレンタルバイクの経営をしている。レンタルバイクは、鴛泊フェリーターミナルを降りてすぐの、向かって一番右端にあるプレハブ小屋。自転車、原付、100ccバイクを借りられる。予約はできないため、ハイシーズンは朝イチのフェリー到着直後、行列が出来る。そこで逃すと基本的にはその人たちが利用を終えるまで待つか、あきらめるしかない。

宿は、同じく鴛泊から徒歩15分。事前にお願いすれば、送迎や、レンタルバイク屋での荷物預かりをしてくれる。

部屋はどこも海の見える2階の和室。階段に加え、食堂やトイレへ行くにも何かしら段差があるので、足腰の弱い人にはすこしきついかも。部屋は広く、布団は崩すだけで敷ける状態で置いてある。Wi-Fiの電波は強く、不満はない。 冬は、暖房が効いていて寒さは感じない。夏は扇風機のみ。夜になれば涼しいのは建物の外だけ。室内は、窓を開けるだけだと空気の抜け道がないため、熱がこもり、相当に暑い。対策方法は、部屋の扉を全快にすることで、風通しをよくすること。これをしないと正直寝られない。どの部屋もそうしていた。トイレを利用するとき、部屋の中が見えてしまうわけだが、もうそこはお互い様というか、客同士察してねという心遣いが求められる。

大浴場は1階にあり、さほど広くはない。4～5人が同時に入ったらストレスに感じる広さだが、あまり鉢合わせになることはなかった。

食事は夕食が18時または18時半。家族連れや大学生、ぼっちなどを考慮して、いい感じのほうをご主人が選んでくれている感じ。なので、申し出は断らずにちゃんと言われた時間に従うのがいいと思う。食堂は座敷で、あぐらをかけない人には少しきつい。そしてこの食事がまぁ豪華で。宿賃と割に合わないほど豪勢な魚介で埋め尽くされた料理。連泊で利用した際は、少しメニューの内容を変えてくれる。

朝食は指定だったか、時間内だったか忘れたが7時。以前はハーフバイキングだったが、22年5月時点では、定食スタイルになっていた。それでも朝にいくらが出てくるのは、宿賃を考えるとやはりおかしい。

チェックアウト後、どう過ごすかをご主人に聞かれ、それによって荷物を引き続き預かってくれたり、レンタルバイク屋まで運んでおいてくれたり、送迎してくれたりと、何かと自分たちの都合にあわせてくれようとするのがありがたい。

総じて、利尻で寝泊まりするのに、まず第一選択肢に入れるべき宿。部屋数が多くないこともあって、人気のシーズンはすぐに埋まっ...
