My March stay at the lodge in Rusutsu was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed by incredible hosts Henry and Noah, who went above and beyond to make me feel at home. Their warmth and hospitality created a unique sense of community, making it feel like I was among old friends rather than strangers.
The lodge’s location is perfect for any snow enthusiast. With direct access to the mountain, I experienced some of the best powder snowboarding I’ve ever had. The quality of the powder in Hokkaido is legendary, and Rusutsu did not disappoint. Each day on the slopes was filled with exhilarating runs and breathtaking views.
Moreover, the proximity to Mount Yotei provided an added bonus. Whether you’re into backcountry adventures or simply appreciate the majestic beauty of a volcano, the access to Yotei was a highlight of the trip.
Beyond the physical amenities, what truly stood out was the energy of Rusutsu. There’s a certain magic in the air that blends the serenity of the snowy landscapes with the vibrant culture of the region. The lodge captured this essence perfectly, offering not just a place to stay, but an immersive experience that celebrated the spirit of Hokkaido.
Overall, my stay at this lodge was unforgettable. It’s rare to find a place that combines great facilities, amazing hosts, and an unbeatable location, all while encapsulating the unique charm of its surroundings. I can’t wait to return and relive the...
Read moreGreat memories of the mountain, but poor form memories of this accomodation.
**The negatives: Staff posting 5/5 Google reviews, which give you a poor chance of knowing what you’re in for. Single sheer curtain, which permitted 24/7 light into the room. However, it allowed for a quality mountain view. Bedroom door with glass panel allowed for the bright lights of the well-lit common areas to shine through, day and night. The 10-14 staff members, all around 21-25, enjoyed a good “staff meeting” at 9 pm, followed by a guitar session at 10:30 pm. Staff often took up the common areas, dressed in minimal clothing, discussing s*xual acts with each other—all in the presence of guests, including children. No hand soap. Misleading prices for transfers, initially advised via WhatsApp at $250 for airport transfers, but ended up being advised in person to be $360. Odorous staff quarters which leaked into the common areas. Staff personal items taking up the majority of common areas. Staff “helping each other pee” frequently. Poor heating in the downstairs bedroom—recommend sleeping in your thermals. Old rusty razors and soaps in the three showers.
**The positives: Large beds. If you enjoy a good party and are in your early 20s, this is quality accommodation for you. If you wish to enjoy the slopes on minimal sleep due to a loud and nocturnal staff community at Mountain Memories, this is the...
Read moreMountain Memories definitely lives up to its name. I was lucky enough to stay there for a couple of weeks at the end of the snow season this year while nursing a torn mcl and I was so grateful to get to do so there! I felt so taken care of and enjoyed every moment at the lodge. A cozy cabin out in the farmland of Rusutsu that feels like a true home away from home because of the people. It’s a place to meet other travelers, enjoy the countryside of beautiful Japan, and have all of your ski and snowboard needs met thanks to the awesome guys who run the lodge. From lessons to rental gear to the best eats and onsens around, to finding you the best pow, these guys have the area dialed and will show you a good time :) Thank you Mountain Memories for my unforgettable mountain memories 🫶🏻 I can’t wait to come back next year! And maybe even come back for some spring or summertime Japan...
