My family and I frequent the Yamanoren onsen because it's a fairly close (20 mins) get away from our home and has a spectacular view from the outside spas. We have a 2 year old daughter that loves to have fun in the spa so, we always try to get into the family spa whenever possible. This not only allows us to bath and relax as a family, it also allows others to bath in peace without a loud child running around. For some reason Yamanoren does not accept reservations for their family spa. This is just absurd being that the place is located at best 20 minutes from the nearest community. There are segregated baths both indoor and outdoor with good quality natural hotspring water. The outdoor onsen overlooks a valley and mountains. Beautiful! There are 4 baths each with different water temperature in the indoor onsen. The changing area is comfortable with hair dryers and weighing machine. Toiletries are provided and available for sale as well. There are plentiful of free lockers for footwear, valuables and refundable coin operated lockers. A sauna is available for use as well.
There are two restaurants. The one nearer to the public baths offers a package deal of ¥900 for both the bath and a bowl of udon. Yummy! Green tea and cold water are on the house. Nice! The prices of the dishes are reasonable. There are also plentiful of local produce for sale in the hotel from hats, to toiletries and local foodstuff.
