This is my second time back at UMEBACHI and I am happy I chose here again. Honestly, there are very few hostels I’ve stayed at (and being cheap I’ve stayed at a lot) where the hosts/staff make an effort to create a warm and inviting environment. Every night you can join everyone for dinner and drinks around the table, meeting people from all over. They serve house made umeshu (the first place I ever tried, and fell in love with, umeshu) and have a good selection of beers, wines and spirits. The staff are all friendly as well as versed in English & Japanese. The hostel is close to Nigatake Station which has regular services to Sendai Station, as well as only being a 40min ride to Matsushima Bay. There are quite a few restaurants and izakaya around, as well as a giant gaming Center down the road. Only 5mins away is a Lawsons, and even closer is a post office and coin laundry (though they also have onsite laundry). Very honestly, out of all places I have stayed, this by far is my favourite, and I will definitely come back anytime I...
Read moreI booked this with a friend for the long weekend in October about 3 weeks earlier, and had struggled to find anywhere else with rooms available as it was a popular time to travel. Came across this after searching the web in Japanese, and even though they only had room for one of us in a bunk bed, they offered to put up an extra futon on the floor (which was just as comfy).||The guest house is small but very pleasant - we were offered tea upon arrival, there are sofas in the lounge where you can drink with the owners and other guests and you can also order dinner for a very reasonable price. There is a small reading room on the top floor where you can use a printer and read from their selection of manga. The bathroom is very clean and modern, the showers are heavenly! There aren't any restaurants or attractions near the hostel but Sendai station is only 4 stops away by train. The staff were so friendly and speak good English. All of this for 2,500 yen a night! Will definitely return if I am ever in...
Read moreJust stayed in this guest house. The Owner and His staff are lovely people. The grounds are removed from the main city and surrounding streets so it has a very quiet and homely setting. It is a beautiful house and I truly enjoyed my time there.
Pros: -Less than 10 minute walk from the nearest train station. -Free breakfast and coffee and other drinks -Many nearby cities with sights and attractions make for good day trips -AC! -They serve a homemade dinner for 700JPY each night that brings the guests together -Free Wi-Fi -Close to many convenience stores and liquor stores and a grocery store
Cons -Children are allowed (more my personal preference) -Beds are not very soft -No communal kitchen (staff use only)
Overall, if you want a quaint, quiet place to stay away from the hustle and bustle and a good place to connect with other travelers, I recommend this place. Thank you for the...
