My family and I had such a wonderful stay at Yakushidaira Akane-jyuku Ryokan in Matsumoto just over a month ago. The staff were so welcoming, attentive, friendly and went out of their way to make our stay memorable and special. The food was delicious and we were able to experience both traditional Japanese and Western style dishes during our stay. The location and views of the Japan Alps were spectacular. We'd definitely recommend this ryokan to anyone looking for a place to stay slightly off the beaten track. A little expensive for what you can get at other ryokan, but otherwise a good experience. The food is great and they serve lunch if you decide to stay there during the day. Many of the rooms have a great view of Matsumoto City and the sunset over the northern Japanese Alps. The outdoor bath also have an impressive view over Matsumoto City. The building itself is old and not that well...
