Wooden house in nature — Hotel in Shiraoi

Pros: fairly large house for reasonable price. That's it.

Cons:

1. Location very remote and only one small konbini some distance away;
2. The bathroom floor is slippery + the bathtub is set deep in the same space, presenting a tripping hazard for taller adults and potential drowning hazard for small children;
3. Insects emerg from the same bathtub's drain hole so beware of creepy crawlies;
4. Traditional Japanese bedrooms are very stuffy even with the fans on and windows opens, resulting in a very sweaty sleep experience;
5. Read about the ground coffee provided by homeowner in other reviews and brought a pandan cake to go with the beverage BUT found only mediocre prepacked coffee in the kitchen + a coffee grinder that had been previously used;
6. Booking experience was confusing and terrible -- had to jump through a few hoops and use Airbnb to force a confession out of the homeowner before he finally relented and leased us this place.

DO NOT STAY HERE! They accepted our reservation and took us on a long merry ride through an email chain before saying they'd taken a booking for the same dates.

I managed to make a booking for the same dates on Airbnb which they accepted, probably because of the higher fees. No explanation given for the discrepancy and I now have irrefutable proof that Roman and Yukiko are cheats and liars.

A nice surprise! Clean and lots of welcoming touches to make you smile. Quirky layout laundry, shower room and toilet in one side of entrance hall.
