All four of us were very disappointed in the accommodations and service offered by Backpackers in Shizuoka. ||||We arrived a at check-in time which I admit was a few hours earlier than we We arrived a few hours earlier than we indicated we would. It was during check-in time. However, the reaction we received was less than cordial. We had Japanese speakers among us. ||||The woman showed that she was annoyed that we had come early. In addition, if I didn't know better, I would say that she was high. She was entirely too laid back and completely unconcerned about welcoming us. That extended to her husband. ||||Rather than go into a lot of detail, I will give you the good and bad points.||||Bad points:||1. Unwelcoming||2. Dirty, dusty, bunkbed accommodations. ||3. Beds were not made when we arrived nor completely made when we returned late at night after dinner.||4. Not a proper room, it was more of a side room with glass siding doors, through which we could see lights, separating us from the kitchen.||5. It was a hot muggy evening. We asked for the remote to the air conditioner and owner became angry and asked to be paid immediately. He finally grumbled and reluctantly turned it on. ||6. Children and teens ran up and down the hallway speaking loudly until late at night.||7. The dust and dirt was so bad that two of us had to sleep in the car.||||Good:||1. Roof over your head.||2. Adequate shower, toilet, kitchen and refrigerator, ||3. Beautiful scenery||4. Very cheap. 3,500 yen per person. It truly is for the young Backpacker with thick skin and no allergies. Not recommended for anyone over the age of 35, asthmatic or with allergies.||5. Seems safe enough if you don't mind owners who seem high with a "Meh" attitude. Read moreThis backpacker's furyu is situated in the outskirts of Shizuoka, out the door you go left for a hilly walk through tea growing, woody areas, or you can go right to walk (quite a long walk!) or to get the bus into town. |I found it brill for walking around, and the hostel was welcoming and well used by Japanese people trying to get away for a while. I was the only foreigner when I was there but it definitely wasn't tourism season so that might have been why. It's got a homey feel to it, which might not appeal to you if you're a fan of hotel-y features like lockers and locks on doors.|Shizuoka is great for views of Mt Fuji, and the city has lots of places to eat and drink and shop without being overcrowded.|The only problem with the hostel for me was that it was pretty cold in some areas, especially the kitchen and the shower/ bath area! There were heaters galore in the bedroom though, and the communal area has a fire that adds to that homey feel I mentioned.|I recommend here for anyone who wants to avoid busyness for a bit, it's a lovely step back from...
Read moreThe Backpackers Furyu near Shizuoka is a small and cozy hostel. The guest will be given the opportunity to be treated as part of the Japanese family. Thus the guest can get some insight into the everyday life of a Japanese family. The hostel is in a very quiet side street and the surrounding area allows lovely walks in nature. The rooms are a bit small and a bit cramped space conditions. The toilet and shower are the space correspondingly small. A small kitchen is also available to the guest. The hostel can be easily reached with a bus from the station in Shizuoka. From the bus station there are still about 10 minutes walk to the hostel.||My conclusion: If you want to experience the everyday life of a Japanese family, is here...
