One of my top three favourite campsites in Hokkaido. In the summer, there’s a fireworks show around 8-9pm (every night, I’m told? At least on weekends, I can confirm). Absolutely breathtaking views all day long. It never gets old. Sunsets are out of this world pretty. Convenient. The “Centre House” has most essentials you might need if you forget to bring them from home. (E.g. ice, batteries, charcoal, etc.) The nearest town is Date but there are convenience stores within a 15-minute drive. Never had any problems with neighbours. Everyone’s always respectful and considerate. (I’ve been three times. But I may have just been lucky). Also there aren’t many unwelcome bugs. Also they renovated in 2020 and now it’s even better maintained than before. Toilets and washing areas are kept nice and clean. I’ve never been to the onsen but I intend to try it next time. It looks small but I’ve only heard good things. It’s nice to have an onsen on the premises and clean up every night. But there are nice onsens with amazing views nearby, like Kohantei,...

The campsite can be very busy on the weekends but the weekdays are very quiet. 700¥ per tent/person. The food preparation area and the toilets are not kept clean. The onsen is the main attraction. You can spend as much time as you like lounging around or reading. The toilets are very clean. There is restaurant serving economical meals and the staff is friendly. There is a convenience store about 6 kilometers away, but on the expensive side. I’d like to add more. After experiencing other campsites I realize now just how good the Nakatoya site is. I’d go back there again if I...
Read moreI have camped in many places in Japan, and this is one of my favorite! 😁
The campsite is very clean and there is a space to dispose of the garbage.
There is a onsen just next to the entrance where you can also buy some simple food :)
I went there on a long week-end, so it might have been busier than usual, but at night it got a little bit smoky with all the camp fires 😅 so if you are worried about that, it would be good to go more...
