Makino Sunny Beach Chinaihama Auto Camping Ground — Hotel in Takashima

In November 2023, we stayed here. The campground was so fantastic we extended our stay - even commuting to Kyoto for a day. We were right on Lake Biwa, watching the sunrise and sunset over the water - observing the fishermen - was one of the most pleasant experiences I've had overseas. Peaceful.

The staff were so friendly, even with my google translate app - they laughed cheerfully as I kept returning from the car with more questions. We originally left the camp, and booked a nearby hotel because it was raining heavily - and we decided to return to the campground the next day because of the staff attentiveness and they even remembered us and welcomed us pleased that we had decided to...

The camping itself is great. Nice area. But the people who work there behave in a really discriminatory way with us. First, asking our origin countries. Since I am Latino, one staff said us "Oh, since you people like loud music, dont make noice. Also your voice is loud, so please dont make noice." I understand that (despite wondering if he makes the same assumption for other people), but after that, he returned and told one of us "I am really worried about that guy (me)". This place is great for families. It has tons of amenities and things to do including: fishing, making pizza, lighting fireworks, etc. They sell firewood and you can rent just about anything you need at a reasonable price. The beach is rocky and aquatic shoes are recommended. However, if you want privacy you should go elsewhere. Your neighbors are directly next to you which is fairly typical at these kind of...
