Stayed at Wakkanupuri Resorts Rera, quieter sibling to the original Wakkanupuri
Style. Nordic Japanese chic hideaway
Setting. One of the dreamiest places in Hokkaido, on the largest Caldera lake in Japan and the second largest in the world. Felt like a secret stay as it was a ten minutes drive down south from the original Wakkanupuri and there are only 4 buildings in a huge space tucked in between the lake and the forest
Explore. Nearby Lake Mashū & magical Mount Iō, I drove in full mist to see this fairy tale landscape
Rooms. Bedroom has a view of the beach and lake The onsen was spacious and heavenly, and just like the rest of the house, has amazing views
@ the hotel. The “hotel” has two houses next to the lake. My house was a 800 sq ft one bedroom built inches from the lake, the other house was tucked a bit further back from the beach.
Food & drinks. The best traditional kaiseki with Hokkaido ingredients, the restaurant was in a separate house, with two spacious dining rooms separated by the kitchen

Hotel & Room: Super nice hotel. They serve only 1 group of guest each day. High privacy. Nice deco with a mix of both Japan and Northern Europe. Private hot spring in room and near the lake with excellent view of Lake Kussharo. (we saw wild fox running across the ice on the lake!).
Staff: Super super nice, friendly and helpful staff. Able to communicate in english which helps a lot.
Food: very tasty food. Can tell Chef chose the special and seasonal ingredients from differenet part of Hokkaido, e.g. pork from Obihiro, fresh seafood from 厚岸, 知床。Utensils are beautiful that upgrade the total...
Read moreWakkanupuri is one of the ryokan with fantastic view by lakeside, Kussharo Lake. You could enjoy such view from your room with full glass window down to floor. In order to ensure their focus for serving client, they will only service 1-2 group of clients each night and we two were the only guests on the night, fully enjoying the peace and quiet environment.
