Unfortunately we had a horrible experience at Hotel Nidom during Christmas 2024.
Let me first start by saying the chalets are nice and the local staff is attentive. In total we spent four nights at the property.
However our experience got completely ruined when we had dinner the first night during Christmas Eve. We made a reservation at 7:30PM at their restaurant, where we reserved a 7-course meal for 24,200 yen per person (150 USD).
The dinner was served so quickly, dishes were served before we even had finished other dishes, and we even had to send back two dishes because they were cold instead of hot. We got the impression that the dishes were already prepared long before we arrived in the restaurant.
In the moment itself, we were quite overwhelmed with what was happening, did not feel welcomed at all, which resulted in the fact that we were completely done with the 7-course meal in 45 minutes. We decided to leave it for that night since it was Christmas Eve, and go back to the staff the day after.
Which we did, we went to one of the staff members and explained our story. He was very attentive and apologized, promising is to get back about once he had talked with his manager.
Two days passed and we heard nothing. Upon checkout, we were presented with the bill and the full diner was on the bill. We made a remark where we once again expressed our dissatisfaction about the dinner and would like to speak to the manager. A 24,200 yen meal is an absolute premium meal in Japan, and the quality of the entire evening was very disappointing.
At first we got offered 'a cake' as a compensation, which is completely outrageous if you compare it to the value of the entire meal. We provided several solutions but they were not receptive to it.
At some point the 'main manager' approached us in a very unfriendly manner. He did not speak English, so we communicated via a phone interpreter. He appeared to be very angry with us providing feedback about the meal and stating at some point that 'personal opinions are not valued here', so for customer-centricity.
In the moment basically all the staff came out and we were surrounded by approximately 15 staff members. It had a pretty intimidating and hostile vibe, in contrast to our approach where we tried to be friendly and constructive all along.
After almost an hour they offered us a 10% discount on the meal, and it was pretty clear they were not willing to do anything else.
This whole experience left us very disappointed with our stay at Hotel Nidom. This is not how you should treat any of...
Read moreI stayed one night both lake view cottage and twin rooms with 3 elders. Mr DING 丁先生 at reception was very kind to accommodate us with an extra twin room so that the elders didn't need to climb stairs. Upon arrival there is valet parking. Then the hotel van transferred us together with luggage to the cottage and room. the cottages all have flights of stairs before you can reach the entrances. bedrooms are located in basement with a swivel staircase. 2 bathrooms with 1 shower. Can walk straight out to the reclining chairs from bedrooms. There is balcony with the living room. pickup service available whenever you need to go to the onsen or breakfast. or walkable depending which cottage you stay. i did a circle walk of the lake which took around 20 min. extremely beautiful. The twin rooms are connected together with private bathrooms and shared kitchen. Can walk to the lake from twin rooms within 5 minutes. breakfast was a choice of either Japanese or French. no hats allowed in the dining hall though. There were a lot of insects because it was summer. although no mosquito. Overall we enjoyed the...
Read moreHotel Nidom is a great place to stay at Hokkaido We like the environment of the hotel. It is a resort and a place to host wedding receptions. We like their services. As our trip is not during peak season, they offered us an upgrade to our cottage from 1 floor to 2 floors cottage.
All their staffs are attentive, and we want to express our special appreciation to Mr. Ding Chen Feng. He walked an extra miles to assist us in recommending places to eat, as we couldn't find a place to eat at the local owned restaurants (who don't speak English) due to the reason that it's a Saturday night and all the restaurants are fully booked.
There are 2 types of breakfast offered, Japanese meal & French meal. We chose Japanese meal and it is truly scrumptious.
The environment of the resort is great with beautiful scenery. Words really couldn't express how beautiful this place is! We will definitely come back during our next trip, maybe during winter. They deserve...
