Hotel Albireo — Hotel in Toyooka

The Albireo is family operated and is more like a dormitory than a ryokan/hotel. We had the biggest and the most pricey "western room" which had bunk beds and in-room restroom. It was very spartan with practically no amenities other than a small TV that you can't really see from the couch, towels, and come toiletries.

There was no water, kettle, refrigerator, teapot, etc. The building doesn't seem to have an elevator either so beware if you're planning to bring large bags.

The biggest selling point is the observatory on the roof top. However, it lacked air circulation (there was one small fan) and can get unpleasantly hot during your 30-minute tour if you're stuck with a larger group of other guests. On our visit the sky was obscured by a heavy overcast so we couldn't see anything through the telescope.

We paid about US$300 for a night's stay including breakfast and dinner. Dining was good and the staffs were friendly but IMHO it's a bit too pricey for the spartan...

城崎温泉の観光で、電車、バスを利用しながら訪れました。外見は少し廃れていて、大丈夫かなと思いましたが、また利用したいと思う施設でした！！ まず、お料理がとても美味しかったです。 夕食はフレンチにしましたが、大根のスープ、鯛のパイ焼き（春巻きの皮？）、自家製バジルのペンネなどフレンチだけど、日本人の口にあう、食材、味付けでとても食べやすかったです。こんなフレンチがあるんだなと関心しました✨ 朝食は、サクサクのクロワッサン、パンオショコラ、りんごのパンなど3種類に、野菜たっぷりのサラダ、ハム、ソーセージなどたくさんありお腹がいっぱいになりました！カフェオレなどもおかわり自由でした。 お料理の味付けはもちろん、自家製のお野菜やソースなどが使われているのかなというように味わい深く食事をしていて、幸せな気持ちになりました。レストラン内も外の景色を見てゆったりした空間で、心地よく食事ができました。

もう一つ良かったのが天体観測です。 初めて天体望遠鏡で見れましたし、 なにより館長さんの天体やいろいろな経験談を聞くことができすごく勉強になりました。 施設の名前のアルビレオの由来や、銀河鉄道の夜の物語の話、質問になんでも答えてくださるところなど、、楽しくて、館長さん、夫、私と1時間半も話をしていました😄

お部屋には、虫がいたりしたので夏に来ると大変だろうなとは思いましたが、また来たいと思えるホテルでした✨
