I can't say enough wonderful things about this ryokan! The couple that run the show were very warm and welcoming! (Well, the wife was for sure. The husband was a bit stoic, but kind)
I was super appreciative because they helped me adjust my reservation. My travel companion had suddenly cancelled so instead of being two guests, it was just me. Ryokans charge per guest, so the original cost reflected two people in the room. When the wife heard that, she was able to adjust my booking.com reservation so that the price was reduced! Although I had to pay in cash rather than the credit card I used to book, I was more than happy to do so.
My room was super comfortable and I was really glad for the private toilet! The onsen bath was also very lovely. I enjoyed a morning bath in the morning sun and it was the best way to start my day! My reservation also included a light breakfast of buttered toast and coffee. It was a wonderful surprise because I wasn't expecting it.
Not only were the ryokan facilities wonderful, but they also have a shuttle that guests can use to go to the main Kinosaki onsen area! The bus runs until 10pm. You can set up a return pick up time or call and request a pick up when you're ready. Since there are few parking lots in the Kinosaki onsen area and all of them are paid, I was really grateful for this service!
Thank you for a wonderful stay!!! I will definitely...
Read moreThis is my first time staying in a ryokan. I really like the experience. I didn’t have WiFi so I couldn’t let the host know what time my train arriving at Kinosaki Station. So I asked the JR staff to call the guesthouse and in 10’ I was picked up by the owner. The guesthouse provides free shuttle to town which means the owner personally drives guests to town. His wife is the sweetest woman I’ve met. She helped me put on the yukata and also helped me with my laundry with free of charge when I asked for it. The owner also showed me the restaurants on the way to the Gosyonoyu onsen. Very nice guy. I would recommend staying here. Please keep in mind this guesthouse is not located right in the center of Kinosaki town. 10 pm is the cut off time for shuttle pick up so if you decide to go for the last onsen of the day until 11pm, you need to get a cab home. Since you rely on the owner to drive you to town, you need to follow their schedule as well. I checked in at 5:30pm and wanted to go to town right away but the owners were about to have dinner so they asked me to wait for an hour. Also keep in mind that the town is pretty dead after 8pm, only a couple restaurants and cafes are still open and of course...
Read moreWe visited Kinosaki with our two teenaged children. They were not as interested in the bath hopping experience so we chose this hotel a short distance from Kinosaki town. What a gem. The location was so quiet and quaint (a perfect alternative to our city travels) and my husband and I could take quiet walks in the morning to the town beach and along the boat docks. We did not take any meals in the hotel, but there was a small restaurant across the street that we enjoyed. The owners were lovely and helpful. We don't speak any Japanese and they speak a little English, but there were no problems whatsoever. We did not have a car but the owner was very accommodating and provided rides to Kinosaki or a local (and amazing) aquarium. As an aside, we enjoyed the surrounding area as much as we enjoyed Kinosaki itself. One day we took a train from Kinosaki to Takeno and spent the day at the beach wandering around this lovely fishing town. Our teenaged...
