We stayed in Yaiza for 2 weeks in July as a family of 5 (children aged 15,13 and 10). We had a great fortnight. Most of the staff at the hotel were friendly and efficient. The Guest Relations team was particularly helpful, providing guests with useful information and assistance throughout their stay. The reception staff were also very helpful and accommodating throughout our stay.||We stayed in a duplex which had ample space. There was only one shower but two toilets. The bathroom decor was dated but it was spotless. The shower was in the bath and was a powerful shower. The beds were very comfortable. There were two singles beds pushed together in the loft. On the entry levels of the duplex there was a couch which turned into a bed in the living area. The double bed also on the level, was enormous and very comfortable.||There was a kitchenette with a coffee machine, sink and draining space, microwave and fridge. We requested crockery ( plates and cutlery) so we could eat snacks. This was quickly delivered to our room. ||Our balcony was spacious, offering lovely views of the pool and the sea. However, it also overlooks the felt-covered roof of the Hacienda Restaurant, which isn’t particularly attractive. Adding some greenery or plants could help beautify the space and enhance the overall view.||Daily cleaning was very thorough. Towels were replaced twice a day. There was a turn down service which also includes a surface clean. Bed linen were changed upon request. ||Any requests for extras, such as toiletries, could be made easily through the hotel app, and items were promptly delivered to the room — a very efficient and convenient service. The dressing gown and slippers provided were also a lovely bonus.||Each room is supplied with four bottles of water daily, which was insufficient for us as a family of five. From an environmental perspective, this also results in a significant amount of plastic waste. It might be more sustainable and practical to install water fountains or refill stations around the resort, allowing guests to top up reusable bottles as needed.||As a party of 5 it was difficult to find 5 beds together unless we got up early to reserve beds. Beds around the salt water pool ( pool closest to the cocktail|bar) were reserved from as early as 6 am! There wasn’t the same rush for beds around the freshwater pool but reservations began around 8 am. Many beds were reserved for the entire day only for guests to return late in the evening and remove their towel never having sat on the bed all day! Towels can be changed each day or several times a day. Towel pegs are crucial to keep towels from blowing away. ||Floaties and balls were only allowed in the saltwater pool ( pool closest to the cocktail bar) , which made this pool particularly busy and crowded for most of the day. This created more of a chaotic atmosphere rather than a relaxed one.||There were lifeguards stationed at the saltwater pool. However, I didn’t feel fully confident in their attentiveness. ||The beach is directly opposite promenade entrance to the hotel. At the beach there is a variety of water sports to choose from. Beds can be rented but the proximity to the hotel meant you could pop to the beach for a swim and return to your bed at the pool. There is also a beach bar on the beach where you can eat or drink. ||We chose the B&B option. At breakfast there was a choice of 3 restaurants all of which served the same food. We favoured the Hacienda restaurant. There was a short queue around 9:30 or 10 each morning but we felt this restaurant was worth the wait. Breakfast was delicious in all restaurants. ||The entertainment was the only area where we found the hotel to be lacking. In our opinion, the evening shows were generally uninteresting. While there were larger productions like Mamma Mia, these were performed by the animation team who simply mimed the music, which made the experience feel underwhelming.||One night featured a talent show made up of performances by children staying at the hotel. While this may be enjoyable for parents of the participants, it doesn’t offer much to other guests. Another evening’s entertainment consisted of a Kahoot quiz, which felt more suited to a casual afternoon activity than a main event.||There was also no live or background music in the bar area during the late evenings, which left the atmosphere quite flat. As a result, we chose to spend most of our evenings on the promenade, where live music is available in many of the nearby bars.||The games room was also a disappointment. Many of the machines were either out of order or required coins to operate, and no change machine was available. This area felt neglected and would benefit greatly from supervision and maintenance.||The soccer club was very well managed and my son had a fantastic time but the cost was €20 per session which quickly adds up. Of course the soccer club is optional but as almost all the boys staying at the hotel chose to take part in the soccer club, this meant there were hardly any boys participating in the regular animation activities. Essentially, for boys, it felt like the only real option was the paid soccer club. It would be nice to see a wider variety of inclusive activities that don’t come with an extra cost.||There was an additional charge for some of the family activities, which again felt like unnecessary extra costs for guests who are already paying a premium to stay in this hotel. ||In summary, while there are some areas that could be improved, this hotel is still highly...
Read moreWe have stayed at the Yaizu Grand Hotel a number of times and always enjoy it. It has always had a certain elegance without being "stuffy", and they have continually performed improvements and renovations. The food is very good, highlighting sushi, sashimi and local seafood, but also including other dishes. The onsen /hot bath comprises two "ocean view" rooms that include outdoor hit spring baths with views of Mt Fuji, plus a "forest view" bath. The baths rotate between being for men or women based on a set schedule, with the entrance clearly marked as being on the male or female schedule. Tattoos are not allowed, so if you cannot cover it with an adhesive bandage, you won't be able to enter. The hotel was friendly to children with a play area, an outside garden and an area with books, games, ping pong, etc. There is an outdoor swimming pool, but we usually visit in winter when the pool is closed. There are often activities available, so it is worth checking in before it gets too late. The location is great for fresh seafood and views, but is a little off the normal tourist route and requires a short shuttle or taxi ride from the local train station. The closest Shinkansen stop is Shizuoka Station, but only three stops by local train to Yaizu station, which is the closest...
Read moreA nice place to relax with excellent service and sea views. ||||This hotel is recommended for couples and families staying/living in Japan. Yaizu is not a trendy tourist destination and as such the hotel doesn't have a lot of foreign guests so if you can speak a little Japanese that's a plus.||||It was our first trip with our new-born son (3 months old) so we were a little apprehensive of how it might go but we needn't have worried. ||||Service: The staff did everything they could to accommodate us and were very friendly and helpful.||||Restaurant: We opted for the set course dinner rather than the buffet. The food was delicious and we were seated in a secluded part of the restaurant which made things easier with a new-born.||||Smoking: Smoking is only permitted in designated smoking areas. The rooms on 9th & 10th floors are all non-smoking so again no problem for the baby.||||Onsens (Spa Baths): There are a variety of indoor and outdoor pools with steam and dry saunas too. All very relaxing.||||Rooms: We stayed in an 'Umitsubaki' room on the 10th floor which was very...
