This is one of the cleanest guest houses I've stayed in. Shared facilities are spotless. For the bathrooms there are separate toilet slippers to wear when you use the bathroom, you leave your guesthouse slippers in front of the door - which also signals to others that the toilet is being used. And the kitchen was tidy and clean every morning, dishes neatly stored away again. ||||Basic food (e.g. toast and jam, ready-made noodles) and drinks can be purchased cheaply from the guest house. There is a local produce and souvenir shop closeby, but it sells fresh vegetables and a few cookies rather than actual meals. Options are a bit limited in the immediate vicinity of the guest house. ||||When checking in - NOTE: check-in is available only from 4pm onwards, but if you arrive early you can leave your luggage in the common area - host Hrio makes sure you're across how things are run. This is both helpful and helps keep the place in order. ||||Lots of local information such as bus time tables, hiking trails etc is available from info boards and Hero is always happy to recommend activities and give helpful advice. ||||The rooms are small, with bunk beds and AC - and windows that open and have fly screens! and again spotless. Mattresses are fairly thin (futon-style), but Hiro could be talked into providing us with a second one due to back problems. Towels can be hired, but only for internal guesthouse use, not Onsen or beach. ||||A few meters down the road there is an old bridge that crosses a beautiful mountain stream and the Senpirono Falls are walking distance (approx 1 1/2 hours...
Read moreLuckily we only spent 3 nights there because the location is not really good. If you don't have a car, you are very dependent on the bus and these bus times are really extremely bad. It is a 50 minute walk to the nearest town where the supermarket is. There are almost no restaurants and their opening times are not optimal. The positives of the accommodation are the price and that there is a common room where you can socialize and also cook something. This is also necessary because, as I said, the restaurants are not really nearby. Although the owner Giacomo can speak good English, we have also encountered more polite and nicer Japanese people on our trip. He can give a lot of information about bus times and other things to do on the island. There was one day when we spotted him in the supermarket in the evening, but he didn't ask us if he could take us with him although he knows how bad the bus connection is at this time. But we would have expected that from a nice host. His manner is the strict and on the day we checked out er left the luggage with him and then picked it up again, soaking wet. When asked if we can still take a shower at his place. He reluctantly answered yes and asked us to leave his hotel after half an hour because other guests were coming to visit. I don't see politeness there. As owning a car and wanting to explore the southern part of the island I would recommend this hostel for a few days otherwise find...
