Our experience with Hotel Angel Grandia was excellent. From the time we made a booking until we checked out.||||Thank you, especially to Takeuchi San who we conversed with via email months before our stay. We requested dining arrangements that were not included in the room package that we booked with Agoda and it was perfectly arranged for our 2-night stay. Communication at times took a while to get a reply but Takeuchi San made sure he followed through with answers to my questions and every detail that needed to be arranged, including the time of the dinner.||||The hotel rooms were perfect. It included some bunk beds and each room differed a bit, some had separators while others didn't but the bedding was complete.||||There's a vending and ice machine on our floor which was excellent, and a Family Mart right in the lobby, we didn't even have to go outside. And indeed, the ski resort was just outside the hotel. They offered lockers at the back entrance to keep ski equipment. We went to Gala Yuzawa on the 2nd day to snowboard, but we were able to rent ski equipment right outside the hotel which was excellent, with no lines so it saved as a lot of time, and got a discount as a hotel resident. We were basically ready to go when we arrived at Gala Yuzawa instead of queuing up in the long lines there. We also had a chance to play in the snow area behind the hotel which was very convenient.||||The onsen was great. I had a chance to go to both onsens, one smaller and cozier one and another bigger one, both had indoor and outdoor pools with different water temperatures. It wasn't crowded at all when I went at night.||||The staff was friendly, their English was not perfect but enough to communicate well with us. There was a slight problem with billing but they were able to resolve it the same day.||||Overall, we were very happy with the hotel and the service. Having said that we had some issues with Agoda regarding the 3 kids that we got confirmation for. And some limitations of their system required us to advance some amount to the hotel, which Agoda eventually refunded to us. Agoda should improve their system as this was their issue, they should not have inconvenienced the customer in the first place. I would have booked direct with the hotel but didn't find their website that easy to understand for international guests.||||I would definitely return to this hotel if given the chance to visit the Yuzawa area again in the future. We definitely experienced the local...

Read moreI was really worried about our stay here as there were hardly any reviews by ‘westerners’ or in English even. |We decided to give it a try as it was close to Tokyo, easily accessed via the bullet train, ski in and ski out and cheaper than most other hotels nearby.|So glad we did.||You do have to walk out of the train station and up the street 50-100m or so to get to their shuttle bus stop. But was fine even with young kids.|Check in was easy enough. There were staff who spoke English.|The room was large and the kids were excited to experience a Japanese style room with Futon beds. (We did need to ask for an additional futon mattress for me and my hubby as we’re weren’t accustomed to the hard bed. But it was fine after that) the room was big enough to leave the beds set up all day aswell and still have the other half of the room to use like a lounge/ dining room. |You get robes and slippers to wear around the hotel and lots of the Japanese wear them to dinner even. So we joined in. |Dinner and breakfast buffet was Amazing! And cheap by Japanese standards. Kids enjoyed the kids section of the buffet and ice cream and cotton candy machines. Lots of choices for adults also.||The Onsen was an experience! We had never been to one and after the initial nervousness about being naked amongst strangers, everyone was very nice and we really enjoyed the experience. Especially the outside bath where you can even touch the snow while sitting in the hot bath. ||We stayed 3 nights so we could get a bit of skiing in with the kids and it was a perfect amount of time. If you were a very experienced skier and didn’t have young kids, you may want to catch the shuttle to a nearby ski field for the day. But my kids were learners and it was perfect for them. But not too boring for my husband and I who have previous ski experience. |Ski clothes and equipment hire is on site and convenient. We also forgot the kids snow boots and gloves at home were able to buy some in the lobby not too expensive. |Tobogganing, tubing and snow play for the kids right outside the hotel. |Ski storage lockers (free) also on ground level...
