Ak-Bulak is a high-mountain resort near Almaty that combines accessibility and a variety of winter activities. The resort offers training slopes for beginners, steeper slopes for experienced skiers and snowboarders, and the opportunity to ride on tubing. The plus is a spacious parking lot and reasonable prices for rentals and lifts, which makes Ak-Bulak a worthy alternative to the more expensive Chimbulak.
Accommodation
I chose a junior suite for 35,000 tenge per day (on a weekday) with breakfast included. The room is cozy, but it is obvious that the furniture is outdated, and there are deep scratches on the walls and floor. Nevertheless, for this price, the living conditions are quite acceptable.
Additional amenities
The hotel pleasantly surprises with the presence of a swimming pool and a sauna - after skiing, you can swim or relax in the steam room. There is also a karaoke room on site for evening leisure, which adds variety to the holiday.
Kitchen
The buffet breakfasts were tasty and quite varied. You can have lunch or dinner in the restaurant, but the service is slow, and the average bill (without alcohol) is about 7-8 thousand tenge per person. The prices seemed a bit high for the level of the establishment.
Result
Ak-Bulak is a good choice for those looking for an affordable and varied winter holiday. A cozy hotel with a swimming pool, a variety of trails and affordable prices for active recreation make the resort attractive for families and companies. However, some shortcomings in infrastructure and service should be taken...
Read moreGreat place to go to learn skiing or snowboarding. But not very well looked after resort. It looks very old and not well maintained at all. Because of this it's great for learning as they don't have many people there and the slops are very wide and not too steep. Though if your a pro skier or snowboarder you probably won't enjoy it so much. Lesnaya skazka is by far more beautiful and has more challenging routs for snowboarding/skiing.
Also akbuluk does not have any children's clubs for skiing or snowboarding they only have indoor soft play area in the hotel.
Considering the poor condition of the resort its surprising that the cost is the same as the newer much nicer...
Read moreBig, clean but oh so tired. Went there for lunch after going for a walk around the mountains. Beautiful area in terms of views and nature but the infrastructure quite frankly was falling apart. The restaurant wasn't very good at all. Meals were bland and the lamb we had wasn't exactly fresh. I was still paying the price the following day. Staff tried but inexperienced. I couldn't believe the difference in quality versus shymbulak. Wouldn't bother returning to the area at all. Not worth...
